International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2016Co-Authors: Rong Song, Zhaohua ZhongAbstract:Chitosan quaternary Ammonium Salt displays good antioxidant and antibacterial characteristics and it shows appreciable solubility in water. When added to the traditional denture material to form a resin base, it could promote good oral health by improving the oral environment. In this study, chitosan quaternary Ammonium Salt was added to the denture material following two different methods. After three months of immersion in artificial saliva, the specimens were tested for tensile strength and were scanned by electron microscope. The murine fibroblast cytotoxicity and antibacterial properties were also tested. The result showed no significant differences in the tensile strength and in the proliferation of murine L929 fibroblast cells. The two structures of chitosan quaternary Ammonium Salt-modified denture material had different degrees of corrosion resistance and antimicrobial properties. These results indicate that chitosan quaternary Ammonium Salt-modified resin denture base material has the potential to become a new generation oral denture composite material.

Progress on synthesis of quaternary Ammonium Salt Gemini surfactants

Synthesis methods for the linear chain type,hydroxyl type,ester radical type,complex group type,ether radical type and the fluorinated type of the quaternary Ammonium Salt Gemini surfactants were emphatically described with their advantages and disadvantages briefly summarized. Performance and properties of various types of quaternary Ammonium Salt Gemini surfactant such as critical micelle concentration( cmc) and surface tension at the cmc( γcmc) as well as their applications in sterilization and metal corrosion prevention et al. were presented. Trends of future development of the quaternary Ammonium Salt Gemini surfactants were prospected.

Progress in research work on synthesis and application of reactive quaternary Ammonium Salt cationic surfactants

According to the features of molecular structure,various types of reactive quaternary Ammonium Salt surfactant were classified and compared. Methods for synthesis of several types of reactive quaternary Ammonium Salt cationic surfactants with specific functional groups( double bond,epoxy,hydroxy and amide) were introduced. Industrial applications of the surfactants,such as corrosion inhibiting and anti- scaling agent, solubilizing and sensitizing agent,co- polymerizable emulsifier,clay stabilizer,sheet softener as well as phase transfer catalyst were expounded. Currently existing deficiencies of the reactive quaternary Ammonium Salt surfactants and the development trend was prospected.
