  • Perception of internet usage and its impact on cyber-crime in Sri Lanka internet usage and relationship with cyber-crime
2016 International Conference on Signal Processing Communication Power and Embedded System (SCOPES), 2016
    Co-Authors: Samadara Methmali
    Abstract:

The research based to identify the internet usage and cyber-crime relationship. For the research study I use qualitative research approach as well as quantitative data, literature review related to the cyber-crime growth, motivation factor for cyber-crime, cyber-crime and protection, cost of cyber-crime. Primary data collected by distributing questionnaires to the IT specialist consists of 300 respondents. The respondents are collect within three months' time duration. Secondary data collected from literature studies. Research subject consist what is the cause of occur cyber-crime by using internet. The result of this study and analysis the possibility of happen cyber-crime with deferent factors. Selected sampling method is simple random sampling. According to the gathered data Password pin passed authentication method is the most popular authentication method. And the highest percentage represent by password pin based authentication. Installing antivirus and Antispyware Software program is got high percentage there for I conclude the most popular system security method is installing antivirus and Antispyware Software programs. According to the gathered responds 47% peoples are not familiar with cyber-crime news and 53% are not familiar with ICT news. Most peoples never write down password and usernames and most of them are never access internet from cafe. When consider the relationship with cyber-crime there is no relationship between the causes of cybercrime to the system security while using internet. Next test used to identify the relationship between cyber-crime and unawareness of cybercrime. So according to the finding there is a positive relationship between the causes of cybercrime to the unawareness in cybercrime. There is a relationship for cyber-crime to the authentication. And final test used to identify the relationship between cyber-crime and confidential information. The result is there is a relationship between the causes of cybercrime to the negligent with the confidential information. I can conclude there is a relationship between cybercrime and unawareness of cyber-crime, cyber-crime and authentication, cyber-crime and authentication. According to the literature review AmmarYassir research mention cyber-attacks on matching connected to the internet has been increased by 260%. (AmmarYassir, 212). In this research mention, in 2010 cybercrime complaints are growths by considering the 2000 cybercrime complaints. There for cybercrime attacked are grown up. Laura Vozmediano research mention cyber-crime attacked are grown by comparing 2010 with 2000. (Laura Vozmediano, n.d.). There for in view of the researches there is a relationship between cyber-crime and internet usage. Furthermore Research concludes the numbers of internet users are directly implication to increase cybercrime by affecting information systems. Because of the some movies like WarGames and Softley' hackers were motivated because of the character of the film. The film character of the hacker is a brilliant and romantic guy and that guy breaks the law for the noble purposes. (NilkundAseef, 2005) Protection side of the cyber-crime researches mention deferent conclusions what they identify. Research by (Er. Harpreet Singh Dalla, 2013) Mention how to prevent from cyber-crime. One is avoid revealing personal information to outsiders, the person who doesn't know, via email or social network. Another main step is avoided sending photograph via online, updating anti-virus Software to guard systems form virus attacks, keeping back up. The research thesis will help full to gain a good knowledge of cybercrime and internet Usage in Sri Lanka.

  • Malware - threats and countermeasures
Vysoká škola ekonomická v Praze, 2015
    Co-Authors: Hejduk Jakub
    Abstract:

This bachelor\u27s thesis addresses the issue of a threat in the area of computers and internet networks, malware. It defines what malware is, its various types and the history in terms of occurrence and actions. It also provides the reader with insight into malware\u27s functionality and how it threatens users. Furthermore, the thesis contains examples of some current well-known threats. A dossier on antivirus and Antispyware Software is also included. It is essentially a summary of their functions, properties, benchmark results and a list of countermeasures it equips the user with. The last section of the theoretical part of the thesis is a prediction of the future regarding the evolution of these threats and how will they affect the user. A considerable part of this work is a survey providing a summary of the current level of malware knowledge among people. I intend to determine if people are aware of these threats, their ability to defend themselves against them and also whether they already encountered this issue and if so, how did they handle it. This thesis should increase awareness about malware to make people understand what it is capable of in the environment of an unsecured computer. Ultimately, I am going to present the results of the survey and evaluate the depths of knowledge about malware among people

  • Resolving the menace of spyware through implementations in application layer and network layer
2012 Students Conference on Engineering and Systems, 2012
    Co-Authors: Abhay Mittal
    Abstract:

Spyware, a potentially unwanted program (PUP), monitors the online activity of the users and introduces serious privacy disclosures and potential security breach to the systems. Various measures are adopted to counteract it and presently we hugely rely on the various Antispyware Softwares. However, the existing spyware tools are stateless because if any new system is added to a network, the system is made to have its own Antispyware Software methods in order to safeguard itself. This paper thus proposes a new technique wherein the Antispyware Software is done away with and in place we utilise the fundamentals of the network layer and the application layer to eliminate the spyware. The technique scans the various outgoing HTTP requests at the browser itself and then proposes a new addendum at both the DNS and the network layer in order to detect the presence of spyware and filter off the potentially unwanted program.

  • Adaptive and Maladaptive Coping with an It Threat
    'Informa UK Limited', 2019
Co-Authors: Chenoweth Tim, Gattiker Tom, Corral Karen
    Abstract:

Numerous studies have investigated employees’ decisions to adopt IS security measures by focusing on adaptive responses. Using the Extended Parallel Processing model (EPPM), this study evaluates subjects’ adaptive and maladaptive intentions with respect to Antispyware Software. Our results show that both adaptive and maladaptive coping occur, and we identify antecedents of each. We advance IS security theory by considering maladaptive coping along with adaptive coping and by modeling threat and efficacy as contingent effects
