Specifying and testing such frameworks present some challenges; we discuss these and develop ways to address them.

Documenting framework behavior
ACM Computing Surveys, 2000Co-Authors: Neelam SoundarajanAbstract:Frameworks [Johnson, Foote, Sparks] promise to dramatically reduce the time and effort needed to develop complete Applications. A framework F for a given Application area typically provides the control flow among the various methods of the various classes. A Developer who wants to use F to develop a complete Application A need only provide the code for the various (pure) virtual methods1 in the various abstract base classes of F . But in order for the promise of frameworks to be truly realized, the framework F must include documentation that provides the Application Developer with suitable information about F . In the absence of such documentation, the Application Developer will be forced to go through the code of F to extract the information, thereby substantially negating the advantages that the use of frameworks was supposed to provide. In the rest of this article we point out the need for a new approach to the formal specification2 of the behavior of frameworks, sketch a possible approach, and briefly indicate how an Application Developer could combine such a specification of framework behavior with appropriate information about the code he supplies to arrive at a specification of the entire Application.

This paper describes new instructions and programming models to extend support for dynamic memory management inside an enclave.

2003Co-Authors: Ueli WahliAbstract:Learn about the EJB 2.0 specification Develop EJBs with Studio Application Developer Deploy EJBs to WebSphere Application Server This IBM Redbook provides detailed information on how to effectively use WebSphere Studio Application Developer for the development of Applications based on the Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) architecture, and deployment of such Applications to a WebSphere Application Server. Throughout the book, we provide examples based on a simple banking Application with an underlying relational database. In Part 1, we introduce EJBs as a part of Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) and cover the basic concepts and the architecture. In particular we point out the new functions introduced with the EJB 2.0 specification that provide, for example, enhanced functionality for container-managed persistence entity beans and message-driven beans. We also provide best practice guidelines for successful implementations of EJBs. In Part 2, we introduce the sample banking Application and then implement entity beans, session beans, and message-driven beans using WebSphere Studio Application Developer. WebSphere Studio Application Developer is the new IBM tool for Java development for client and server Applications.
