Work Zone Impact Assessment Methods and Applications

BrydiaAbstract:Two work zone impact assessment methods were developed and their applicability was illustrated with data from recent construction projects on the I-35 Central Texas corridor. The first method was developed for postevent analyses of the impacts of freeway construction activities, incidents, and special events. The impacts were evaluated in terms of travel times and delay. An interval estimate for maximum queue length was also provided. Travel times and speeds were obtained by Bluetooth Address matching. The method has also been used for determining work zone mobility performance measures, verifying the suitability of queue warning systems, and providing feedback for future deployment decisions. CCNC - System for fast and seamless communication among user devices

Most of such devices communicate using Bluetooth (BT) or similar protocols, which need device discovery and connection establishment. These processes are time and power consuming, before they can be used to transmit data to one another. It would be useful to have a method to enable automatic and seamless connection establishment for devices associated with the same user, eliminating the discovery procedure. In this paper we propose such a system. Our system is based on the insight that the biometric parameters are the same for any one user. In our solution we designate a master Bluetooth device for a user at any point in time, assigning it with a specific Bluetooth Address (BD_ADDR or MAC Address), temporarily replacing the original Bluetooth Address of the device. This Bluetooth Address is generated out of the bio-metric identity of the user with whom the device is associated. This enables any new device, when associated with the same user, to generate the BT Address and get connected to the designated Master device by bypassing the conventional discovery procedure. Once the BT Address is determined, the rest of the connection establishment process remains unchanged. Using this method, we consider a few unique use cases where our system can be used. This patented method is currently proposed for commercialization in upcoming wearable device models.

These days phishing is carried out by real time (RT) and control relay (CR) man in the middle (MITM) attacks or by malicious browser extensions. Existing user authentication schemes are either incapable of handling these attacks or they are complex to learn and use or they require users to purchase and carry additional hardware such as a security key. In this paper, we propose a new secure authentication scheme for anti-phishing, which uses the Bluetooth Address of the user's smartphone for user identification along with App instance ids and a user password for authentication. The analysis of the results of our experiments shows that the proposed scheme is safe against RT MITM and CR MITM phishing attacks and the attacks launched via malicious browser extensions. It is also efficient in terms of memory and CPU utilization. The comparison of the proposed scheme with the existing schemes in terms of usability and deployability shows that it is better than the schemes that can provide the same level of security.

A new secure authentication scheme for web login using BLE smart devices

Two factor authentication schemes such as Google 2 Step verification, SAASPASS, QR code, graphical password and push notification based login schemes can be compromised using RT / CR MITM phishing attacks. Hardware token based schemes are safe but the extra cost of the hardware token makes them unattractive to users. Therefore, there is a need to develop new authentication schemes which are hard for an attacker to compromise but easy for users to understand and utilize. This paper analyzes existing authentication schemes to identify the research gaps and then proposes a secure authentication scheme which uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE, BT 4.0+ version) devices for user identification and which can handle RT/CR MITM phishing attacks, attacks launched via malicious browser extensions and app spoofing via attackers. The proposed scheme is location/client system independent and is secure from Bluetooth Address spoofing attacks.
