Rare case of pancreatic cancer with leptomeningeal Carcinomatosis.

Leptomeningeal Carcinomatosis is characterized by multifocal seeding of the leptomeninges by malignant cells that originate from a solid tumor. To the best of our knowledge, brain metastasis from pancreatic cancer is extremely rare. Leptomeningeal Carcinomatosis is estimated to occur in 3% to 8% of cases of solid tumors. The clinical manifestation usually involves neurological symptoms, including dizziness, headache, vomiting, nausea, and hemiparesis, symptoms similar to those of meningitis or brain tumors. Diagnostic methods for leptomeningeal Carcinomatosis include brain magnetic resonance imaging and cerebrospinal fluid examination. Here, we describe a case of leptomeningeal Carcinomatosis in which the primary tumor was later determined to be pancreatic cancer. Brain magnetic resonance imaging findings showed mild enhancement of the leptomeninges, and cerebrospinal fluid cytology was negative at first. However, after repeated spinal taps, atypical cells were observed on cerebrospinal fluid analysis and levels of tumor markers such as carbohydrate antigen 19-9 in cerebrospinal fluid were elevated. Abdominal computed tomography, performed to determine the presence of extracerebral tumors, revealed pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer was confirmed histopathologically on examination of an endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration specimen.

Leptomeningeal Carcinomatosis of Prostate Cancer: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

It is likely underdiagnosed as suggested by autopsy studies and is expected to become more prevalent with increasing survival of prostate cancer patients. Prostate cancer leptomeningeal Carcinomatosis is associated with rapid functional decline and a median survival of approximately 1 month. Diagnosis is challenging because the clinical manifestations are varied, and no gold-standard diagnostic approach exists. Treatment of prostate cancer leptomeningeal Carcinomatosis is not standardized and multiple approaches have been reported, mostly as case studies. Herein we report a case of a 73-year-old patient with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer who presented to our clinic with subacute cognitive decline, ataxia, and urinary incontinence, and was found to have leptomeningeal Carcinomatosis.

The emerging role of molecular imaging and targeted therapeutics in peritoneal Carcinomatosis.

This review discusses the ongoing evolution of diagnostic and treatment strategies for peritoneal Carcinomatosis and the role that molecular imaging and radioimmunotherapy may play in improving patient survival. An overview of recent developments in targeted imaging and therapeutics for peritoneal Carcinomatosis, as well as the authors’ opinions as to future developments in this field is also provided.

Pulmonary lymphangitic Carcinomatosis: chronicity of radiographic findings in long-term survivors.

MarglinAbstract:Long-term survival after development of pulmonary lymphangitic Carcinomatosis is considered unusual. However, modern chemotherapy can result in surprising stability or only gradual progression of lymphangitic Carcinomatosis. We evaluated the course of radiographic findings in 10 patients with chronic lymphangitic Carcinomatosis.Ten patients met our criterion of having lymphangitic Carcinomatosis for at least 6 months. The primary tumor was a carcinoma of the breast in six cases, the ovary in two, the pancreas in one, and the skin in one. Serial radiographs (all cases) and CT scans (eight cases) were analyzed retrospectively.Survival with lymphangitic Carcinomatosis ranged from 11 to 30 months (median, 13 months). With chemotherapy, the radiographic abnormalities and pulmonary symptoms initially regressed in six patients, progressed in two, and remained unchanged in two; the radiographic findings of lymphangitic Carcinomatosis were progressing at the time of death in four patients.
