Data-driven sustainable supply chain through centralized logistics network: Case study in a Finnish pharmaceutical distributor Company

This research was conducted as a commissioned research for a Finnish pharmaceutical wholesaler. In wholesale, logistics process is an important part of the core competencies and optimizing this process can provide significant competitive advantages. The objective of this research study was to investigate the causes of supply chain fragmentations and the ways to mitigate these effects. The central concepts are used as sustainable logistics process that minimizes carbon dioxide (CO2) emission, offers supply chain visibility, lean distribution channel, offers discrete event simulation and supply chain modelling. The empirical research employs a mixed research method consisting of both qualitative and quantitative data. Quantitative data is collected from the inbound deliveries of a Finnish pharmaceutical Case Company and qualitative data is gathered from a questionnaire survey within the Case Company. This study investigated the current inbound processes of the Case Company and compared to the developed model of the centralized pipeline system. The objective of this study was to investigate how a centralized logistic system minimizes travel cost to support environmental damage and can provide benefits to the inbound process of the Case Company. The research results indicated that a centralized pipeline system can provide improved information flow, higher freight capacity and reduced CO2 emissions to support environmental friendly and sustainable supply chain and logistics processes.

However, it is inherently affective even in B2B contexts and thus not directly controllable. Satisfaction impacting customer experiences (CX), respectively, can be managed by the supplier Company. The Company should first define its strategic CX vision, and then set the value-based CX goals accordingly. The goals have to be made transparent to the entire organization for producing the experiences with their current status and projected progress. A transparent measurement system is thus needed. In this research work, we have investigated how satisfying experiences (chiefly UX) can transparently be gauged in a B2B Case Company. Following our prior research approach, instead of attempting to cover all possible experience touchpoints in customer-supplier relationships, we focus on the main experience factors of the Case Company. A real-time predictive CS/CX measurement framework design is proposed. A use Case is illustrated for initial evaluation.

How to Assure and Control the Raw Material Quality
2004Co-Authors: Tobias KarlssonAbstract:It´s reasonable to assume that every Company that´s involved in production wants to assure and control their incoming raw material quality for improving their own production. One way of doing this is to control the incoming raw material, but with this thesis also take one step further through focusing on the source, the supplier. The empirical data for this thesis was collected through interviews, observations, surveys, and through existing documentation from the Case Company. This combined with the different litterature studied during the authors education in Vaxjo University is the basis for our research. To be able to conduct this degree thesis towards the Case Company the authors have focused on two different important aspects. The first aspect is purchasing, how is the purchase process structured at the present time in the present time at the Case Company? the second aspect is quality, how is quaility assured at the present time in the Case Company. From these two aspects the authors have made a model of how to assure and control the raw material quality. By conducting this research we hope that the Case Company will get new ideas of how to identify and improve their current situation and performance regarding controling and assuring the raw material quality, we also hope that the our suggested model will be applied and that this model will help and inspire other companies to do the same in the future.
