We have investigated the role of varying polymer charge density, polymer concentration, surfactant chain length, polymer backbone rigidity, and molecular weight on the critical aggregation concentration (Cac) of mixed polymer/surfactant systems. The Cac of these systems, estimated from tensiometry and potentiometry, is found to be in close agreement. Different Cac variations with polymer charge density and surfactant chain length were observed with polymers having persistence lengths either smaller or larger than surfactant micelle size, which might reflect a different type of molecular organization in the polymer/surfactant complexes. 4-Aminoantipyrine derived Cationic Surfactants: Synthesis, characterization, surface activity and screening for potential antimicrobial activities

RhmanAbstract:A series of Cationic Surfactants were synthesized from chemical modification of 4-aminoantipyrine. The chemical structures were confirmed using infrared (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy. The surface activities of the Surfactants in their solutions were determined by surface tension measurements. Increasing the hydrophobic chain length increased the surface activity of the Surfactants in solutions. Measurements of interfacial tension between Surfactants solutions and light paraffin oil showed that the interfacial tension values were decreased with increasing the alkyl chain length. The emulsion stability measurements showed the applicability of these Surfactants as emulsifying agents. The foaming power measurements showed the synthesized Surfactants have low ability for foam formation. Thermodynamic properties of adsorption and micellization processes showed their tendency towards adsorption at solution interface and micellization in their solutions. Results showed reasonable surface activities compared to conventional Cationic Surfactants. The antimicrobial activity of the synthesized Surfactants against Gram-positive bacteria (Bacillus subtilis and Staphyl. aureus, Gram-negative bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa and E. coli.) and Fungi (Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger) was evaluated. The efficiency of these compounds as antimicrobial agents) was increased with the hydrophobicity and carbon chain length. ionic liquids based gemini Cationic Surfactants as corrosion inhibitors for carbon steel in hydrochloric acid solution

TawfikAbstract:Abstract Three ionic liquid based gemini Cationic Surfactants; N1,N1,N1,N2,N2,N2-hexadodecylethane-1,2-diaminium bromide (G2IL), N1,N1, N1,N2, N2,N2-hexadodecylpropane-1,3-diaminium bromide (G3IL) and N1,N1,N1,N2,N2,N2-hexadodecylhexane-1,6-diaminium bromide (G6IL) were synthesized and their chemical structures were elucidated by using FTIR and 1HNMR spectroscopic techniques. The physicochemical properties of ionic liquids were measured and discussed. The critical micelle concentration and surface properties were determined from their surface tension measurements. The performance evaluation of the synthesized inhibitors on the carbon steel corrosion in acidic environment (1.0 M HCl) have been investigated at different concentrations by potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and weight loss techniques. Potentiodynamic polarization studies indicate that the studied inhibitors are mixed type inhibitors. For all inhibitors, the inhibition efficiency increases with increasing their concentration but decreases with increasing temperature. The adsorption of the ionic liquid Surfactants on the metal surface and adsorption process obeys the Langmuir isotherm.

Three techniques were used for the corrosion inhibition evaluation, namely; weight loss, polarization and electrochemical impedance. The serial dilution method was used to evaluate the inhibiting effect of these compounds on the sulfate reducing bacteria growth. The results showed that the prepared compounds have good antimicrobial activities against the SRB as well as they have high efficiency as corrosion inhibitors for carbon steel in 1 M HCl.

FTIR and 1H-NMR spectroscopy were used to confirm the chemical structure of the prepared Cationic Surfactants. The surface parameters were estimated using surface tension measurements at three different temperatures. The prepared Cationic surfactant showed a lower CMC than conventional Cationic Surfactants. Thermodynamic parameters of adsorption and micellization depend mainly of alkyl chain length and temperature. The adsorption process is more favorable than micellization. The biological activity of the three Surfactants was estimated using inhibition zone showing that amidoamine Cationic Surfactants have good activity and the Surfactants C12Bn is the most effective one.

The best adsorption isotherm was vilamil isotherm. The chemical structures of the prepared Cationic Surfactants were confirmed by different techniques, FTIR, 1 HNMR and mass spectroscopy. The prepared inhibitors showed high inhibition efficiency for carbon steel in 1.0 M HCl.
