    Abstract:

    In this work, we have successfully determined that the aromatic amide-derived nonbiaryl atropisomer/silver complex (silver-Xing-Phos) is an effective catalyst system for the solvent-dependent exo-selective cycloaddition of glycine aldimino esters with chalcones or less-reactive methyl Cinnamates to give the corresponding chalcone- or cinnamate-derived pyrrolidines with multiple stereogenic centers in good yields and high diastereoselectivities as well as excellent enantioselectivities. Remarkably, it is the first example of highly enantioselective silver-catalyzed [3 + 2] cycloaddition of methyl Cinnamates with glycine aldimino esters.

    Abstract:

    The visible-light-mediated activation of vinyl chlorides derived from α-chloro ethyl Cinnamates via oxidative quenching of excited photocatalyst fac-Ir(ppy)3 is described. Upon photoelectron transfer and chloride extrusion, the corresponding vinyl radical can be efficiently trapped by enol acetates, giving rise to synthetically useful 1,4-dicarbonyl compounds in good to excellent yields. This transformation is distinguished by mild and environmentally benign reaction conditions and can be performed on a multigram scale, in sharp contrast to contrasting α-bromo ethyl Cinnamates, which show low conversion under the various conditions applied.

    Abstract:

    Abstract An environmentally friendly inhibitor, cerium cinnamate (CeCin), was studied as an additive to an epoxy coating. The effects of corrosion inhibition on AA 2024-T3 provided by cerium cation and cinnamate anion were investigated by electrochemistry impedance spectra (EIS) and polarization tests. It was found that cerium ion and cinnamate group have synergistic inhibiting effects. The EIS results show that CeCin is an effective inhibitor pigment for improving the corrosion resistance of epoxy coatings on AA2024-T3, as reflected by the much higher coating resistance than that of the blank epoxy coating. The inhibiting effect of CeCin during the onset of corrosion in defects of the epoxy coating was verified using scanning vibrating electrode technique (SVET), which is in agreement with the EIS results.
