While the leaves, roots and stems of this species have been the subject of reiterated phytochemical studies, their fruits have received less attention. Phenolic compounds were extracted from the pulp of ripe soursop fruits and separated into two fractions by solid phase extraction. The first was eluted with water and HCl (0.01%), while the second was obtained with ethyl acetate. Their characterization was conducted with high-performance liquid chromatography with diode array and electrospray ionization mass spectrometric detection. The analytical system allowed the separation and tentative identification of 16 phenolic compounds, mainly based on MS fragmentation patterns. Prevalent compounds were a Cinnamic Acid Derivative and p-coumaric Acid, together with several other minor compounds that may have health benefits due to antioxidant characteristics. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study on the phenolic composition of soursop fruit pulp based on a mass spectrometric method.

Actividad antioxidante del extracto en diclorometano de Palicourea Guianensis Aubl. (Rubiaceae)
Química Industrial, 2009Co-Authors: Peláez Gutiérrez, Enelia CristinaAbstract:Debido a la ausencia de reportes sobre análisis fitoquímicos en la especie Palicourea guianensis Aubl., (Rubiaceae), se planeo éste estudio con el objetivo de explorar el uso de ésta especie como una nueva fuente de antioxidantes naturales. Para ello, se tomaron 700 g de las hojas secas y molidas y se les realizó extracciones con diclorometano. El material obtenido de la extracción anterior se homogenizó en una mezcla de i-PrOH-H2O (65:35). A continuación, se procedió con una extracción líquido-líquido con acetato de etilo y finalmente con n-butanol. A cada extracto se le realizó su respectivo fraccionamiento. A cada fracción se le determinó el rendimiento gravimétrico y su actividad antioxidante fue estudiada empleando el método del DPPH, empleando como control positivo vitamina E en el caso de las fracciones del extracto en diclorometano y vitamina C para las fracciones de los extractos en acetato de etilo, butanólico y acuoso. Esta investigación se enfocó en la búsqueda compuestos con actividad antioxidante promisoria. Sin embargo, los resultados mostraron una baja actividad antioxidante en todas las fracciones evaluadas. Posteriormente, se realizó un estudio fitoquímico con los extractos para identificar sus principales constituyentes. En el extracto en diclorometano (PgDC), se identificaron algunos hidrocarburos saturados y alcoholes de alto peso molecular, mediante análisis por cromatografía GC-MS. También se detectaron algunos compuestos fenólicos y de tipo flavonoide mediante espectros UV, cromatografía TLC y HPLC-DAD. Adicionalmente, se identificó un derivado del ácido cinámico mediante cromatografía HPLC-DAD. Los extractos acuosos, se monitorearon por cromatografía HPLC-DAD, mostrando la presencia de compuestos de tipo fenólico y flavonoide. La actividad antioxidante de las fracciones obtenidas de éste extracto fue mejor que la de las otras fracciones. Sin embargo, ninguna fracción sobrepasó el control positivo.Due to the lack of reports about phytochemical analysis in the specie Palicourea guianensis Aubl. (Rubiaceae), we planned this study aimed to explore the use of this specie as a new source of natural antioxidants. For this, 700 grams of dried and ground leaves were extracted with dichloromethane. The material obtained from the previous extraction was homogenized in a mixture of i-ProH-H2O (65:35). Then we proceeded with a liquid-liquid extraction with ethyl acetate and finally with n-butanol. Fractionation was performed on each extract. The gravimetric yield of each fraction was determined and its antioxidant activity was assayed using the DPPH radical method, using as positive controls vitamin E for fractions of the dichloromethane extract and vitamin C for fraction of the ethyl acetate, n-butanol and water extracts. This research focused on the search of compounds with a promising antioxidant activity. However, our results showed only a low antioxidant activity in all the fractions evaluated. Subsequently, a phytochemical study was done with the extracts in order to identify their main constituents. In the dichloromethane extract (PgDC), some saturated hydrocarbons and high molecular weight alcohols were detected by GC-MS chromatography. Also, some phenolic and flavonoid compounds were detected by UV spectra, TLC chromatography and HPLC-DAD. In addition, a Cinnamic Acid Derivative was detected by HPLC-DAD chromatography. The aqueous extract was monitored by HPLC-DAD chromatography, showing the presence of phenolic and flavonoid compounds. The antioxidant activity of the fractions obtained from this extract was better than for the other fractions, However, the activity was lower than the positive control
