development of a device using cylinder method for measuring Clothing Pressure of elastic socks and pantyhose
Sen-i Gakkaishi, 2007Co-Authors: Harumi Morooka, Mikiko Nosaka, Hidefumi Koga, Hideo MorookaAbstract:This study aims to develop a new Clothing Pressure measuring device for elastic socks and pantyhose, which uses a leg mannequin with sixteen built-in type compression sensors. The design concept is intended to be easy to use in factories, not to take much time to measure, and not to require special skills to operate. The leg mannequin has the standard leg size of women in their twenties in Japan. The device can measure the Pressure PBB caused by the force of the cylinder sensor's protrusion from the inside of the leg. The sensor-stroke is 2mm, and the sensor-head has a curvature radius of 11mm. Many Clothing Pressure values PW on human legs were measured by using many subjects to analyze the relationship between PBB and PW. The results showed that PW can be predicted from the square root of PBB with a high degree of accuracy. When the obtained prediction equations are imported into a computer connected to the device, PW can be predicted by the computer as it measures PBB. Moreover, the problem about the size of socks and pantyhose with regard to body size was discussed.

Clothing Pressure Design of High Elastic Knee-Socks Using EMG for Reducing Muscle Fatigue
Journal of Textile Engineering, 2006Co-Authors: Mikiko Nosaka, Harumi Morooka, Kiyoshi Toriumi, Hideo MorookaAbstract:This study aims to obtain some guidelines for designing high elastic knee-socks that will reduce muscle fatigue. Fourteen young women were employed as test subjects. Four samples of high elastic knee-socks with differing tensile property were used. We examined the relation between Clothing Pressure and the results of an electromyogram (EMG) of subject's legs when walking. The results showed that the socks were effective when the Clothing Pressure at Tibialis Anterior (TA) was about 1.7 kPa, Gastrocnemius Lateral Head (GLH) at about 1.5kPa, and Gastrocnemius Medial Head (GMH) at about 1.1 kPa. At the Soleus, the socks with less elongation in the warp direction were effective.

the effects of the tensile properties of cup stand materials on Clothing Pressure and comfort of push up type brassieres
Sen-i Gakkaishi, 2006Co-Authors: Harumi Morooka, Reiko Fukuda, Hisae Sasaki, Hideo MorookaAbstract:This study aims to clarify the influence of cup-stand materials on Clothing Pressure, compressive feeling, silhouette evaluation and physiological responses (heart rate and blood Pressure). We conducted wearing tests of pushup type brassieres of which cup-stand materials have different tensile resistances. This includes a regular type brassiere with a short cup-stand as control sample. Clothing Pressure and compressive feeling that measured and evaluated in a sitting position depended on the tensile properties of the total bottom section of brassieres. Brassieres where compressive feeling was lower were more comfortable. Variable coefficients in Clothing Pressure during a stepping exercise depended on the tensile properties of the cup-stand section. When wearing brassieres with lower tensile resistance at the cup-stand section subjects had lower physiological responses (the heart rate and double product : heart rate×systolic Pressure) during and after exercise. A decrease in body size when wearing the push-up brassieres was larger than that of the regular sample, therefore we concluded that the push-up effect depended on the length of the cup-stand. The brassieres with higher tensile resistance and a longer cup-stand could obtain a better silhouette evaluation, but the evaluations of all push-up type brassieres were better than that of the regular one. Within the push-up type brassieres used, a brassiere without bust-under tape (hem type) at the cup-stand section had the lowest Clothing Pressure and the subjects had the lowest physiological responses. It was also most comfortable.

effects of Clothing Pressure of pantyhose with controlled loop length on the human circulatory system
Sen-i Gakkaishi, 2003Co-Authors: Miyuki Nakahashi, Harumi Morooka, Chie Nakajima, Seizo Sato, Hideo MorookaAbstract:This study investigated the effects of the Clothing Pressure of pantyhose with controlled loop length in the wale and course direction on skin blood flow and skin temperature of the peripheral part of a leg, heart rate and core temperature. Fifteen women were employed as subjects. Differences of physiological response due to the age of subjects were also investigated. By wearing high-Pressure pantyhose, skin blood flow decreased. The effect of Clothing Pressure on the calf and the thigh on skin blood flow was more marked than that on the ankle. The changes in skin temperature resembled that in skin blood flow. Wearing support-type pantyhose reduced heart rate and core temperature. However, wearing the trial support-type pantyhose of which the loop length was controlled in the wale and course direction reduced the decrease rate of skin and core temperature without depending on the age of women subjects.

Physique differences and psychophysiological response under Clothing Pressure using waist belt
International Journal of Clothing Science and Technology, 2019Co-Authors: Mayumi Uemae, Tomohiro Uemae, Masayoshi KamijoAbstract:The purpose of this paper is to examine the physique difference and psychophysiological response under Clothing Pressure by a waist belt.,The influences of Clothing Pressure on physiological and psychological responses were evaluated by the following measurements: functional near-infrared spectroscopy, electrocardiogram and sensory evaluation. The authors investigated the correlation between the anthropometric data and psychophysiological response data.,There were significant correlations between body fat and physiological responses. It was suggested that differences in body fat affect changes in cerebral hemodynamics and heart rate due to Clothing Pressure. It is inferred that the participants having lower body fat reacted more sensitively to the compression stimulus, while those having higher body fat were more tolerant of physiological reactions to compression stimulus.,This paper has presented the necessity of Clothing comfort evaluation considering individual differences in physique due to body fat.

Influence of Visual and Pressure Information on Clothing Pressure Sensation - From Evaluation of Autonomic Nerve Activity and Sensory Test -
2014Co-Authors: Mayumi Uemae, Tomohiro Uemae, Masayoshi KamijoAbstract:Clothing comfort sensation is composed of multisensory processes and involves complex processes, in which a large number of stimuli from Clothing and external environments are communicated to the brain through multiple channels of sensory responses to form subject perceptions. We get much information through visual sensation, so studies on the influences of visual information on Clothing Pressure sensation is very important. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of Clothing Pressure on physiological and psychological responses in order to create a method for evaluation of Clothing comfort. We have measured physiological and psychological responses in the Clothing Pressure sensation under 3 visual conditions; Condition 1 was that the subjects had their eyes open and looked forward, Condition 2 was that the subjects looked at themselves in a mirror, and Condition 3 was that the subjects without a waist belt look at other subjects who wore a fastened waist belt. Consequently, in all three conditions, the sympathetic nerve activity decreased. The sympathetic nerve activity decreased also in Condition 3 in which the information of Clothing Pressure was added through only visual sensation. In the re-rest period, the response in Condition 2 was significantly larger than that in Condition 1 and Condition 3. We concluded that it is important to consider the effects of visual information as well as the effect of Clothing Pressure sensation in the evaluation of Clothing comfort sensation.

EFFECT ON BRAIN ACTIVITY OF Clothing Pressure BY WAIST BELTS
KANSEI Engineering International, 2000Co-Authors: Yosuke Horiba, Yoshio Shimizu, Masayoshi Kamijo, Kazuya Sasaki, Tsugutake Sadoyama, Hiroko ShimizuAbstract:The condition of brain of brain activity resulting from Pressure exerted on the abdomen by waist belts was evaluated by Electroencephalogram (EEG) measurement. We investigated the possibility of estimating psychological and physiological stress arising from waist belts in Clothing based on EEG measurements. Waist belts are daily attire for both men and women and are a requisite when Clothing with separate legs are worn. There are many studies to the effect that Pressure on the abdomen exerted by Clothing is not desirable; however there is hardly any research on the relation between Pressure exerted by Clothing and brain activity. Moreover there is hardly any research describing the mutual relationships between the following three things: Pressure exerted by Clothing, feelings of Clothing comfort and physiological response. In this study, electrodes were fixed to the scalp and EEG was measured for states of abdomen Pressure and non-Pressure as exerted by waist belts, with eyes open and with eyes closed. Additionally, sensory tests for sensations of tightness, arousal, and feelings of comfort were carried out. Frequency analysis of measured EEG data was carried out and brain activity as reflected in the intensity of alpha waves under the conditions of Pressure exerted by waist belts was evaluated. With eyes open, the intensity of alpha waves decreased significantly under waist-belt Pressure in comparison with the intensity of waves in non-Pressure conditions. With eyes closed, there was no significant difference in the intensity of alpha waves between the two Pressure conditions. It was examined as to whether brain activity might be promoted in accordance with visual information concerning tightening. Additionally, the Pressure on the body exerted by clothes has been seen to be a problem not only from the standpoint of sensuous comfort but also in terms of its effects on physiological functioning and health caused by oppressiveness.
