In his study, a Psychobiological and Social Model (Functional Structuralism) has been used on our Cognitive evolution, and causal cognition processes as the main drivers of Cognitive and behavioural development. The process takes place over a long historical period, because although it seems that there are antecedents at the end of the Middle Palaeolithic, its main development begins with the beginning of the Upper Palaeolithic, where archaeologically an advanced development of causal cognition related to measurement behaviours is observed. Its subsequent evolution to counting and numbering behaviours would depend on the social, technological and emotional development of Neolithic and Bronze Age societies. Resumen En este trabajo se intenta analizar el origen de la abstraccion numerica. En su estudio se ha utilizado un Modelo Psicobiologico y Social (Estructuralismo funcional) sobre nuestra evolucion cognitiva y los procesos de cognicion causal como motores principales del desarrollo cognitivo y conductual. El proceso se realiza en un amplio periodo historico, pues aunque parece que existen antecedentes a finales del Paleolitico medio, su principal desarrollo comienza con el inicio del Paleolitico superior, donde arqueologicamente se constata un avanzado desarrollo del cognicion causal relacionado con conductas de medicion. Su posterior evolucion a conductas de contaje y numeracion dependeria del desarrollo social, tecnologico y emocional de las sociedades del Neolitico y la Edad del Bronce.

Humor’s conspicuous presence in the behavioral repertoire of humankind invites adaptive explanations. This article explores the possible adaptive features of humor and ponders its evolutionary path through hominid history. Current humor theories and previous evolutionary ideas on humor are reviewed. In addition, scientific fields germane to the evolutionary study of humor are examined: animal models, genetics, children’s humor, humor in pathological conditions, neurobiology, humor in traditional societies and Cognitive Archeology. Candidate selection pressures and associated evolutionary mechanisms are considered. The authors conclude that several evolutionary-related topics such as the origins of language, cognition underlying spiritual feelings, hominid group size, and primate teasing could have special relevance to the origins of humor

Journal of Archaeological Science, 2012Co-Authors: Chris ThorntonAbstract:In Cognitive Archeology, theories of cognition are used to guide interpretation of archeological evidence. This process provides useful feedback on the theories themselves. The attempt to accommodate archeological data helps shape ideas about how human cognition has evolved and thus—by extension—how the modern form functions. But the implications that Archeology has for Cognitive science particularly relate to traditional proposals from the field involving modular decomposition, symbolic thought and the mediating role of language. There is a need to make a connection with more recent approaches, which more strongly emphasize information, probabilistic reasoning and exploitation of embodiment. Proposals from Cognitive Archeology, in which evolution of cognition is seen to involve a transition to symbolic thought need to be realigned with theories from Cognitive science that no longer give symbolic reasoning a central role. The present paper develops an informational approach, in which the transition is understood to involve cumulative development of information-rich generalizations.
