  • innovations child adolescent psychiatry use of collaborative problem solving to reduce seclusion and restraint in child and adolescent inpatient units
    Psychiatric Services, 2006
Co-Authors: Ross W Greene, Stuart J Ablon, Bruce Hassuk, Kathleen M Regan, Andres Martin
    Abstract:

The authors describe "collaborative problem solving," a Cognitive-Behavioral Approach for working with aggressive children and adolescents. The model conceptualizes aggressive behavior as the byproduct of lagging cognitive skills in the domains of flexibility, frustration tolerance, and problem solving. The goal is to train staff to assess specific cognitive skills that may be contributing to challenging behavior and to teach children new skills through collaborative problem solving. The authors present results from an inpatient unit that dramatically reduced rates of seclusion and restraint.

  • Validating School Social Work: An Evaluation of a Cognitive-Behavioral Approach to Reduce School Violence
Research on Social Work Practice, 1999
    Co-Authors: Gary W. Whitfield
    Abstract:

Objective: This study evaluated the effectiveness of anger control training with conduct-disordered male adolescents at a day treatment program. Method: A multiple baseline single-subject design across subjects was used to assess matched pairs of students (8 experimental and 8 control students). Combined visual analyses and group comparison methods were used in the assessment. Results: The experimental students significantly improved in their weekly self-reports of using better anger control and experiencing more positive management and expression of anger. The experimental students also significantly improved in their use of self-control as shown by a pretest through 6-month follow-up assessment. Conclusion: This research effort provides some evidence that a Cognitive-Behavioral Approach is one method of effectively reducing school violence when compared with a nonspecific counseling Approach alone. Recommendations for future research efforts are offered given some of the limitations of the study.

  • Layanan Konseling Kelompok dengan Menggunakan Pendekatan Cognitive Behavioral untuk Membentuk Internal Locus of Control
    Jurnal Fokus Konseling, 2018
Co-Authors: Eko Sujadi, Rinda Tri Ayumi, Syaiful Indra, Sumarto Sumarto
    Abstract:

Internal locus of Control needs to be owned by every individual, including students. Individuals who oriented in internal locus of control will believe that they have a major role to influence events related to their lives. A strategy that can be used to forming internal locus of control is group counseling by using cognitive behavioral Approach. The purpose of this research was to reveal the effectiveness of group counseling by using cognitive behavioral Approach in forming internal locus of control. This research was experimental research with pretest and post-test control group design. The sample had been chosen by using purposive sampling. The instrument that had been used was Internal Rotters’ inventory -External Locus of Control (I-E Scale). Data were analyzed by using Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test and Kolmogorov-Smirnov Two Samples. The findings of this research were: (1) there was a difference of locus of control in experimental group students before and after being treated; (2) there was a difference of locus of control in control group before and after being treated; and (3) there was a difference in students’ locus of control in experiment and control group. Keywords :  group counseling, cognitive behavioral, internal locus of control.
