Candidemia due to unCommon Candida Species in children: new threat and impacts on outcomes

We aimed to investigate these unCommon candidemia in children. Forty-six cases of candidemia caused by unCommon Candida spp. were identified during 2003–2015 from a medical center in Taiwan. The most Common Specie was C. guilliermondii (31.2%), followed by C. lusitaniae (18.8%) and C. metapsilosis (18.8%). These cases were analyzed and compared with 148 episodes of C. albicans candidemia. The incidence density of unCommon Candida spp. candidemia and the proportion to all candidemia episodes increased substantively during the study period. Prior exposure to azoles was unCommon in the 30 days prior to infection, but fluconazole resistant strains were significantly more Common (n = 19, 41.3%). The increased incidence density of unCommon Candida spp. candidemia was associated with increasing use of antifungal agents. No differences in demographics, underlying comorbidities, risk factors, clinical features, dissemination, and 30-day mortality were found between unCommon Candida spp. and C. albicans candidemia. Patients with unCommon Candida spp. candidemia were more likely to require modifications in antifungal treatment and receive echinocandin drugs (43.5% vs 21.6%, p = 0.007). Candidemia caused by unCommon Candida spp. had poorer response to antifungal treatment, led to longer duration of candidemia (median 4.0 versus 2.5 days, p = 0.008), and had a higher treatment failure rate (56.5% vs 38.5%, p = 0.040)

El presente inventario de parasitoides asociados a la mosca de la fruta realizado en la microcuenca del río Magdalena (Bulán) y Algarrobo (Paute), fue ejecutado durante el período de fructificación de las eSpecies hospederos de moscas consideradas dentro de este trabajo durante el período de mayo 2015 a marzo 2016. De un total de 489,54 Kg de fruta muestreada se recuperaron 1572 moscas de fruta adultas de las eSpecies Anastrepha fraterculus (Wied.), Anastrepha distincta Greene, Anastrepha obliqua (Macquart) y Ceratitis capitata Wied. En el presente trabajo se verificó la presencia de una eSpecie de parasitoide de la familia Braconidae, Doryctobracon crawfordi (Viereck), encontrándose al mismo distribuido en la zona de forma irregular. La tasa de parasitismo fue bajo siendo de 0,20% en Prunus pérsica L., 1,88% en Psidium guajava L. y 2,05 en Annona cherimoliaMill. La eSpecie de mosca de la fruta predominante fue Anastrepha fraterculus (Wied.) (60,88%) la cual presenta una amplia distribución. Para la zona en estudio se obtuvo un índice de diversidad de Shannon - Weaver de 0,69.The fruit flies are pests of the great economic importance for the losses in fruit crops. This study found a parasitoid of the family Braconidae, Doryctobracon crawfordi (Viereck), with an irregular distribution in the area studied. The parasitism rate was low 0,20% (Prunus pérsica L.), 1,88% (Psidium guajava L.) and 2,05 (Annona cherimolia Mill.). The most Common Specie of fruit flies in the area zone is Anastrepha fraterculus (Wied.) (60,88%) with a widely distribution. The Shannon – Weaver index in the zone was 0,69

PLOS ONE, 2017Co-Authors: Quanchao Zeng, Yanan Chen, Shaoshan AnAbstract:Caragana korshinskii, a leguminous shrub, a Common Specie, is widely planted to prevent soil erosion on the Loess Plateau. The objective of this study was to determine how the plantation ages affected soil, leaf and root nutrients and ecological stoichiometry. The chronosequence ages of C. korshinskii plantations selected for this study were 10, 20 and 30 years. Soil organic carbon (SOC) and soil total nitrogen (STN) of C. korshinskii plantations significantly increased with increase in the chronosequence age. However, soil total phosphorous (STP) was not affected by the chronosequence age. The soil C: N ratio decreased and the soil C: P and N: P ratios increased with increasing plantation age. The leaf and root concentrations of C, N, and P increased and the ratios C: N, C: P, and N: P decreased with age increase. Leaf N: P ratios were >20, indicating that P was the main factor limiting the growth of C. korshinskii. This study also demonstrated that the regeneration of natural grassland (NG) effectively preserved and enhanced soil nutrient contents. Compared with NG, shrub lands (C. korshinskii) had much lower soil nutrient concentrations, especially for long (>20 years) chronosequence age. Thus, the regeneration of natural grassland is an ecologically beneficial practice for the recovery of degraded soils in this area.
