    Abstract:

    Today, developments in Information and Communication technology (ICT) have a significant influence on education sustainability. In this study, the factors influencing students’ intentions towards using ICT in education sustainability, as well as their satisfaction from its use, were examined. This study aims to investigate student intentions to use Information and Communication technology, as well as their satisfaction with such use. Therefore, this study employed an extended model of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as the research framework, and adopted quantitative data collection and analysis methods by surveying 502 university students who were chosen through stratified random sampling. Using structural equation modeling (SEM), student responses were sorted into eight study constructs and analyzed to explain their intentions towards technology use and satisfaction. A significant relationship was found between computer self-efficacy (CSE), subjective norms (SN), and perceived enjoyment (PE), which were significant determinants of perceived ease of use (PEU) and perceived usefulness (PU). PEU, PU, and attitudes towards computer use (ACU) influenced students’ intentions to use (SIU) ICT and students’ satisfaction (SS). The constructs succeeded in explaining usage intentions towards ICT among students and their satisfaction from this usage.

    Abstract:

    The integration of auditory and visual stimuli is crucial for recognizing objects, communicating effectively, and navigating through our complex world. Although the frontal lobes are involved in memory, Communication, and language, there has been no evidence that the integration of Communication Information occurs at the single-cell level in the frontal lobes. Here, we show that neurons in the macaque ventrolateral prefrontal cortex (VLPFC) integrate audiovisual Communication stimuli. The multisensory interactions included both enhancement and suppression of a predominantly auditory or a predominantly visual response, although multisensory suppression was the more common mode of response. The multisensory neurons were distributed across the VLPFC and within previously identified unimodal auditory and visual regions (O’Scalaidhe et al., 1997; Romanski and Goldman-Rakic, 2002). Thus, our study demonstrates, for the first time, that single prefrontal neurons integrate Communication Information from the auditory and visual domains, suggesting that these neurons are an important node in the cortical network responsible for Communication.

    Abstract:

    Social Communication relies on the integration of auditory and visual Information. To understand how these two modalities are integrated during social Communication we recorded from the primate ventrolateral prefrontal cortex (VLPFC) during the simultaneous and separate presentation of vocalizations and corresponding facial gestures. The stimuli consisted of short video clips of conspecific macaques vocalizing which were deconstructed into audio and visual components and presented separately and simultaneously. The single units we encountered responded robustly to auditory, visual and combined face-vocalization stimuli. The multimodal neurons represented one-third of the task responsive population and exhibited significantly enhanced or suppressed responses to bimodal stimuli. Combination of face or movie stimuli with incongruent vocalizations resulted in significant changes in neuronal firing compared to congruent stimuli. Moreover, alterations of the temporal onset of auditory-visual stimuli also resulted in a significant change when the onset of the auditory stimulus preceded the visual motion stimulus. Our results suggest that VLPFC neurons in the rhesus monkey integrate Communication-relevant auditory and visual Information. Analysis of multimodal processing in the VLPFC of non-human primates may help us to understand social Communication in the human brain, in which the integration of multimodal sensory Information is crucial.
