Negotiating agent : Concept, architecture and Communication Model

This paper studies automated negotiation from a new point, proposes a novel concept, namely negotiating agent, argues its significance in construction of automated negotiation system; designs its architecture, which can support both goal-directed reasoning and reactive response. In order to construct an interaction mechanism among negotiating agents, a Communication Model is proposed, in which the negotiation language used by agents is defined. Design of the Communication Model and the language has been attempted in such a way so as to provide general support for a wide variety of commercial negotiation circumstances, and therefore to be particularly suitable for electronic commerce. Finally, the design and expression of the negotiation ontology are discussed.

Communication Model-Task Pairing in Artificial Swarm Design

AdamsAbstract:Unraveling the nature of the Communication Model that governs which two individuals in a swarm interact with each other is an important line of inquiry in the collective behavior sciences. A number of Models have been proposed in the biological swarm literature, with the leading Models being the metric, topological, and visual Models. The hypothesis evaluated in this manuscript is whether the choice of a Communication Model impacts the performance of a tasked artificial swarm. The biological Models are used to design coordination algorithms for a simulated swarm, which are evaluated over a range of six swarm robotics tasks. Each task has an associated set of performance metrics that are used to evaluate how the Communication Models fare against each other. The general findings demonstrate that the Communication Model significantly affects the swarm's performance for individual tasks, and this result implies that the Communication Model-task pairing is an important consideration when designing artificial swarms. Further analysis of each tasks' performance metrics reveal instances in which pairwise considerations of Model and one of the various experimental factors becomes relevant. The reported research demonstrates that the artificial swarm's task performance can be increased through the careful selection of a Communications Model.

Multimedia Communication Model for Synchronous Real-time Teleteaching
Computer Engineering, 2003Co-Authors: Ni BingAbstract:Aiming at the existing issues on multimedia Communication in synchronous real-time teleteaching system over IP network, a 4-tuple structural mode of multimedia Communication is introduced , and a Communication Model is built according to the mode. Moreover, some key issues of this Model, such as the cross-subnet multicast mechanism and the focus interaction mechanism, are discussed. Finally, the performance of this Model is evaluated. The Communication Model has been applied successfully in the authaors' interactive synchronous real-time teleteaching system named RealClass, which has good extendibility.
