    Abstract:

Abstract : Blood Pressure, Light Massage, Hypertention. The impact of hypertension leads to heart attack, renal failure and stroke if the blood pressure is not controlled. Light massage is a Complementary Therapy for blood pressure control of patients with primary hypertension. Light massage can cause a relaxation response and reduce stress. The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of light massage on the decrease in blood pressure. Research design is pre experimental. The number of respondents in this study were 16 respondents. Sampling technique used is purposive sampling. The study was conducted by measuring blood pressure before and after light massage Therapy. Blood pressure measurement using digital tensimeter. Test the difference in blood pressure before and after intervention using Wilcoxon test. The results showed a significant difference in blood pressure before and after treatment in the group receiving light massage Therapy (p value 0.035). Light massage affects the decrease in blood pressure in patients with primary hypertension

  • the effects of foot reflexology massage on anxiety in patients following coronary artery bypass graft surgery a randomized controlled trial
Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice, 2014
Co-Authors: Masoumeh Bagherinesami, Seyed Afshin Shorofi, Nahid Zargar, Maryam Sohrabi, Afshin Gholipourbaradari, Alireza Khalilian
    Abstract:

Abstract Objective To examine the effects of foot reflexology massage on anxiety in patients following CABG surgery. Methods In this randomized controlled trial, 80 patients who met the inclusion criteria were conveniently sampled and randomly allocated to the experimental and control groups after they were matched on age and gender. On the days following surgery, the experimental group received foot reflexology massage on their left foot 20 min a day for 4 days, while the control group was given a gentle foot rub with oil for one minute. Anxiety was measured using the short-form of the Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and the Visual Analogue Scale-Anxiety. Results Both measurement instruments confirmed a significant decrease in anxiety following the foot reflexology massage. Conclusion The significant decrease in anxiety in the experimental group following the foot reflexology massage supports the use of this Complementary Therapy technique for the relief of anxiety.

  • phytosome complex of curcumin as Complementary Therapy of advanced pancreatic cancer improves safety and efficacy of gemcitabine results of a prospective phase ii trial
    Pharmacological Research, 2018
Co-Authors: Davide Pastorelli, Aline S C Fabricio, Petros Giovanis, Simona Dippolito, Pasquale Fiduccia, Caterina Solda, Andrea Buda, Cosimo Sperti, Romeo Bardini, Gianfranco Da Dalt
    Abstract:

Abstract A large body of biomedical evidence indicates that activation of Nrf2 by curcumin increases the nucleophilic tone and damps inflammation cumulatively supporting the malignant phenotype. Conversely, genetic analyses suggest a possible oncogenic nature of constitutive Nrf2 activation since an increased nucleophilic tone is alleged increasing chemoresistance of cancer cells. Aiming to contribute to solve this paradox, this study addressed the issue of safety and efficacy of curcumin as Complementary Therapy of gemcitabine on pancreatic cancer. This was a single centre, single arm prospective phase II trial. Patients received gemcitabine and Meriva®, a patented preparation of curcumin complexed with phospholipids. Primary endpoint was response rate, secondary endpoints were progression free survival, overall survival, tolerability and quality of life. Analysis of inflammatory biomarkers was also carried out. Fifty-two consecutive patients were enrolled. Forty-four (13 locally advanced and 31 metastatic) were suitable for primary endpoint evaluation. Median age was 66 years (range 42–87); 42 patients had Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status 0–1. The median number of treatment cycle was 4.5 (range 2–14). We observed 27.3% of response rate and 34.1% of cases with stable disease, totalizing a disease control rate of 61.4%. The median progression free survival and overall survival were 8.4 and 10.2 months, respectively. Higher IL-6 and sCD40L levels before treatment were associated to a worse overall survival (p
