Complete Denture education in u s dental schools
Journal of Prosthodontics, 2005Co-Authors: Vicki C Petropoulos, Behnoush RashediAbstract:Purpose: In 2001, a survey of U.S. dental schools was conducted to determine curricular content, teaching philosophies, and techniques used in clinical Complete Denture programs. Materials and Methods: The questionnaire was mailed to the chairperson of the prosthodontic/restorative department of 54 U.S. dental schools. Of these, 44 schools returned the Completed survey, resulting in a response rate of 82%. The mean, median, and range of responses were computed where applicable. Results: Results from this survey show that a large majority of schools are using similar materials in clinical Complete Denture treatment: irreversible hydrocolloid for preliminary impression (87%); light-cured composite resin for record base fabrication (70%); a semiadjustable articulator (98%); and semianatomic posterior tooth form used exclusively or in combination with other tooth forms (75%). In addition, a large majority of schools are using similar techniques in clinical Complete Denture treatment: use of a protrusive record (80%); use of extra-oral measurements, speech, and esthetics for establishing the occlusal vertical dimension (59%); use of the conventional compression molding method for processing Complete Dentures (82%); occlusal equilibration and face-bow preservation (75%); and the clinical remount procedure (91%). A quality control program is present for cases sent to and returned from the laboratory in 73% and 84% of responding schools, respectively. Conclusions: Clinical Complete Denture predoctoral programs vary from school to school, yet a large percentage of schools agree on many topics. Only 55% of schools reported incorporating new educational materials such as the use of dental implants and treatment of patients with implant-retained overDentures at the predoctoral level. Sixteen percent are allowing students to graduate without a set number of required Complete Dentures as has traditionally been the case. Sixteen percent are using newer techniques such as injection molding and microwave processing technique in addition to the conventional processing technique.

Influence of psychological counseling on the effect of Complete Denture restoration
Modern Preventive Medicine, 2012Co-Authors: Liu Hong-meAbstract:OBJECTIVE To investigate the influence of psychological counseling on the effect of Complete Denture restoration therapy.METHODS 60 patients receiving Complete Denture restoration were randomly divided into experimental group(n = 30)and control group(n = 30).Patients in experimental group received psychological counseling.The time of adapting Dentures and the number of re-examination were compared with two groups.Satisfaction on Complete Denture was evaluated in the first and third months after prosthesis.RESULTS Compared with control group,the time of adapting themselves to the Dentures in experimental group was shorter and the number of re-examination was less(P﹤0.05).Compared with the first month,the satisfaction rate of speaking,mastication,stability and comfort in the third month were significantly improved in each group(P﹤0.05).Compared with the control group,speaking,mastication and comfort of experimental group were significantly different in the first and third months(P﹤0.05).CONCLUSION Psychological counseling improves the effect of Complete Denture in the edentulous patients.

Comparative study on clinical application between functional model Complete Denture and traditional Complete Denture
Chinese Journal of Practical Stomatology, 2009Co-Authors: Liu Hong-meAbstract:Objective To investigate the clinical effect of functional model Complete Denture.Methods Fifteen functional model Complete Dentures and 15 traditional model Complete Dentures were separately made.Sore spot,masticatorye fficiency,bite force and retentive force were measured in situ respectively.Results The number of sore spots in functional model Complete Dentures was less than that in traditional ones,and bite forces and retentive forces in functional model Complete Dentures were significantly higher than that in traditional ones.Conclusion From the masticatory function points of view,functional model Complete Denture is better than traditional Complete Denture.

The vertical and horizontal relations of models were recorded before scanning with a special device. A 3D graphic database of artificial teeth, which can be aligned with parameters, was established. Special CAD software developed by ourselves was applied to the 3D integrated design process including automatic setting up artificial teeth, semiautomatic designing aesthetic and individualized artificial gingiva and base plate, automatic constructing individualized virtual flasks according to the finished CAD digital models of removable Complete Denture. At last, 3DP technology was used to make the individualized physical flasks. In this study, AMT and classic Denture materials were effectually combined to achieve making removable Complete Denture aided by CAD/RP technology.

Robotic system approach for Complete Denture manufacturing

The tooth arrangement algorithm is presented, including the equations of jaw-arch curve and teeth-arch curve, setup of a single tooth coordinate system and calculation of tooth position in teeth-arch curve. An expert system software is developed that integrates high-level dentist experiences and dexterous technician skills. Three-dimensional (3-D) display of tooth arrangement, human-computer interactive adjustment of tooth position and orientation in teeth-arch curve are achieved. Robot path planning and control data creation are realized by this software also. Finally, an experiment of Complete Denture manufacturing is made for a patient, a pair of Complete Dentures is obtained, and the results are analyzed. This robotic system is expected to change the manner of Complete Denture manufacturing wholly, and significantly improve product quality and manufacturing efficiency.

Tongue pressure recordings during speech using Complete Denture

Using edentulous people as subjects, pressure transducers are inserted in their Complete Denture duplicate. Physiology is respected during sound and pressure recording as with standard Complete Denture. Original calibration device is also described in order to know what kind of information can be extracted from the data. The measurements are realized in different experimental conditions in order to remove the auditory and the orosensory feedbacks. Then the first results of the pilot study are presented

Hollow Complete Denture for resorbed ridges
International Journal of Oral Health Sciences, 2018Co-Authors: U Krishna Kumar, Sanjay MurgodAbstract:The severely resorbed maxillary and mandibular edentulous arches that are narrow and constricted with increased inter-arch space provide decreased support, retention, and stability and pose a clinical challenge to the success of Complete Denture prostheses. The consequent weight of the processed Complete Denture only compromises them further. This article highlights a technique for the fabrication of a hollow maxillary Complete Denture in situation where there is excessive resorption of the maxillary residual alveolar ridge and thereby greatly reducing the weight of an exceptionally heavy maxillary Denture. Weight of a Denture may be a contributing factor to the successful resolution of a patient's problem; the hollow Denture can be considered as one of the treatment modalities.
