Application Generation Framework for Real-Time complex event processing
2008 32nd Annual IEEE International Computer Software and Applications Conference, 2008Co-Authors: Yonit Magid, Maya Barnea, David Botzer, Ella RabinovichAbstract:We propose to develop a framework which provides the ability to apply complex event processing in realtime domains, thus allowing an easier process of developing and maintaining specific solutions for real-time event-based systems, while upholding the real time requirements of the system. Specifically, we propose to develop a framework that includes an integrated development environment for defining rules, and, given a set of rules, generates code for a complex event processing application for which it is able to determine time bounds on the response of this application to a set of supported events. In particular, the tool helps determine a time bound for the execution time of the code corresponding to each rule. Many Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) applications, in domains such as financial services, manufacturing, gaming and military/aerospace, have real-time performance requirements. We present real-life industry use cases from these domains as motivation for the potential benefit in developing real-time complex event processing applications. In support of a feasibility argument for the proposed approach we present some preliminary experimental results obtained on a partially implemented tool.

DSC - Uncertain complex event processing Based on Markov Logical Networks
2019 IEEE Fourth International Conference on Data Science in Cyberspace (DSC), 2019Co-Authors: Yongheng Wang, Zengwang Wang, Lijie Liu, Xiaozan ZhangAbstract:The main task of complex event processing is to identify high-level events of interest from the original events. However, the traditional complex event processing technology can only solve deterministic events, but it can't do anything about uncertain events. In the real world, uncertainty can't be avoided, such as loss in event collection, imperfect rule definition, and even in some cases, the incident is accompanied by a certain degree of confidence, and we only pay attention to the last situation, it is soft evidence. For this situation, we need to update our beliefs in a timely manner. In this work, we propose a uncertainty complex event processing method based on Markov logic networks, and adopt a Markov Monte Carlo method, called MC-SAT-PC, which can easily combine the probability attribute of event into inference. In the process, without excessive computational overhead. Our experiments in the field of activity identification demonstrate the feasibility of the method.

Distributed complex event processing using rule deployment
Proceedings of the 2015 International Conference on Education Management and Computing Technology, 2015Co-Authors: Kang Sun, Yongheng Wang, Shuguang PengAbstract:Several complex event processing (CEP) middleware solutions have been proposed in the past. They act by processing primitive events generated by sources, extracting new knowledge in the form of composite events, and delivering them to interested sinks. event-based applications often involve a large number of sources and sinks, possibly dispersed over a wide geographical area. To better support these scenarios, the CEP middleware can be internally built around several, distributed processors, which cooperate to provide the processing and routing service. This paper proposes the rule patition and deployment technique for distributed complex event processing. Our evaluation compares the presented solutions and shows their benefits with respect to a centralized deployment, both in terms of network traffic and in terms of forwarding delay.

High Efficient complex event processing Based on Storm
The Proceedings of the Second International Conference on Communications Signal Processing and Systems, 2013Co-Authors: Shengjian Liu, Yongheng Wang, Shuguang Peng, Xinlong ZhangAbstract:In recent years there is a huge increase in real-time data, which cannot be processed efficiently. complex event processing has become a very important method to get meaningful information. However, supporting complex event detection in multiple sources environments is a challenging problem. To allow for inferring high level information from vast amounts of continuous arriving data. In this paper, we present a complex event processing system based on a novel distributed computing platform Storm, which goes further than distributing queries and achieves better scalability by parallelizing event detection, and also higher efficiency through the use of some optimizations. The experimental shows that the event processing system is effective and better scalability.

A Proactive complex event processing Method for Intelligent Transportation Systems
Lecture Notes on Information Theory, 2013Co-Authors: Yongheng WangAbstract:Recently the rapid development of Internet of Thing (IoT) brings new opportunity to Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). The key problem is how to process the huge events generated by IoT to support ITS. In this paper a proactive complex event processing method is proposed for congestion control in ITS. Based on complex event processing, this method predicts the traffic flow using a multi-layered Adaptive Dynamic Bayesian Network. When congestion is predicted, actions are chosen and executed based on concurrent-actions Markov Decision Processes (MDP) to avoid the future traffic congestion. The simulation experiments show that this method can reduce the traffic congestion obviously for typical transportation system.

FSKD - complex event processing over distributed probabilistic event streams
2012 9th International Conference on Fuzzy Systems and Knowledge Discovery, 2012Co-Authors: Yongheng Wang, Xiaoming ZhangAbstract:With the rapid development of Internet of Things (IoT), enormous events are produced everyday. complex event processing (CEP) is the key part of the IoT middleware. Since current hardware and wireless communication techniques cannot support 100% confident data, CEP engine which can report confidence for processed complex events over uncertain data is needed. Most of the current study of complex event processing has not considered much about how to process complex event over distributed probabilistic event streams and large sliding window. In this paper, a high performance complex event processing method over distributed probabilistic event streams is proposed. This method uses probabilistic Nondeterministic Finite Automaton and Active Instance Stacks to process complex event in single probabilistic event stream. Multiple processes can run parallel to improve the performance. A query plan based method using tree data structure is used to process hierarchical complex event from distributed event streams. Query plan optimization is proposed based on query optimization technology of probabilistic databases. The experimental study shows that this method is efficient to process complex events over distributed probabilistic event streams.
