a Comprehensive Theory of integration
Medical Care Research and Review, 2020Co-Authors: Sara J Singer, Michaela Kerrissey, Mark W Friedberg, Russell S PhillipsAbstract:Efforts to transform health care delivery to improve care have increasingly focused on care integration. However, variation in how integration is defined has complicated efforts to design, synthesize, and compare studies of integration in health care. Evaluations of integration initiatives would be enhanced by describing them according to clear definitions of integration and specifying which empirical relationships they seek to test—whether among types of integration or between integration and outcomes of care. Drawing on previous work, we present a Comprehensive theoretical model of relationships between types of integration and propose how to measure them.

rehabilitation etiology and self regulation the Comprehensive good lives model of treatment for sexual offenders
Aggression and Violent Behavior, 2006Co-Authors: Tony Ward, Theresa A GannonAbstract:In this paper, we draw upon two sets of theoretical resources to develop a Comprehensive Theory of sexual offender rehabilitation named the Good Lives Model-Comprehensive (GLM-C). The original Good Lives Model (GLM-O) forms the overarching values and principles guiding clinical practice in the GLM-C. In addition, the latest sexual offender Theory (i.e., the Integrated Theory of Sexual Offending; ITSO) provides a clear etiological grounding for these principles. The result is a more substantial and improved rehabilitation model that is able to conceptually link latest etiological Theory with clinical practice. Analysis of the GLM-C reveals that it also has the theoretical resources to secure currently used self-regulatory treatment practice within a meaningful structure.

toward a Comprehensive Theory of child sexual abuse a Theory knitting perspective
Psychology Crime & Law, 2002Co-Authors: Tony Ward, Richard J SiegertAbstract:Abstract In recent years a number of multifactorial theories of child sexual abuse have been developed. The most influential are Finkelhor's (1984) Precondition Model of child sexual abuse; Hall and Hirschman's (1992) Quadripartite Model; and Marshall and Barbaree's Integrated Theory (1990). While all three of these important theories have a number of strengths, each has serious weaknesses that limit its ability to provide a satisfactory explanation of child sexual abuse. In this paper we attempt to integrate the best elements of the three theories into a Comprehensive etiological Theory, or at least the beginnings of such a Theory. After outlining the concept of Theory knitting we briefly summarise each of the multifactorial theories and their major strengths and weaknesses. We then develop a Comprehensive theoretical framework (the Pathways Model) integrating both the overlapping and unique elements of these broad perspectives with some additional concepts derived from various psychological domains. optimal control of two level quantum systems
IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 2001Co-Authors: Domenico Dalessandro, M DahlehAbstract:We study the manipulation of two-level quantum systems. This research is motivated by the design of quantum mechanical logic gates which perform prescribed logic operations on a two-level quantum system, a quantum bit. We consider the problem of driving the evolution operator to a desired state, while minimizing an energy-type cost. Mathematically, this problem translates into an optimal control problem for systems varying on the Lie group of special unitary matrices of dimension two, with cost that is quadratic in the control. We develop a Comprehensive Theory of optimal control for two-level quantum systems. This includes, in particular, a classification of normal and abnormal extremals and a proof of regularity of the optimal control functions. The impact of the results of the paper on nuclear magnetic resonance experiments and quantum computation is discussed.

Mathematically, this problem translates into an optimal control problem for systems varying on the Lie group of special unitary matrices, with cost that is quadratic in the control. We develop a Comprehensive Theory of optimal control for two-level quantum systems. In particular, we prove the 'normality' of the given problem and the 'regularity' of the optimal control functions. The impact of the results of the paper on nuclear magnetic resonance experiments and quantum computation is discussed.
