  • social networking and the family business performance a Conceptual Consideration
Journal of Entrepreneurship Management and Innovation, 2019
    Co-Authors: Kenneth Chukwujioke Agbim
    Abstract:

Researchers and practitioners are divided on the preferred measures of business performance, largely due to the quality of available financial data and the measurability of the non-financial indicators. However, owing to the embeddedness of social networking in families and in the business world, this study reviews the contribution of social networking to the financial and non-financial performance of family businesses. The study is based on a review of 55 peer-reviewed published journal articles. Consequently, the most frequently used social networking platforms, the measures of financial performance, the measures and proxies of non-financial performance and the differences between financial and non-financial performance were identified. The study proposes the use of both financial and non-financial measures in assessing the performance of family businesses due to their complementary roles.

  • effect of entrepreneurial networks on family business development a Conceptual Consideration
International Journal of Small and Medium Enterprises, 2018
    Co-Authors: Kenneth Chukwujioke Agbim
    Abstract:

Family businesses are generally affected by resource constraints. These resource constraints are occasioned by the vagaries in the business environment. Consequently, budding and established family business entrepreneurs are now resorting to the acquisition and sharing of intangible resources as a strategy for achieving family business development. One type of resource that is increasingly being employed is entrepreneurial networks. In spite of the known supports entrepreneurial networks give to entrepreneurs at the different states of family business development, empirical evidences are still rear. Based on the foregoing, this study undertook a literature review and thereafter proposes that: the effect of family network on family business start-up is significant; the effect of intra-industry network on family business formalization is significant; the effect of professional network on family business professionalization is significant; the effect of extra-industry network on family business diversification is significant; the effect of social network on family business internationalization is significant; and the effect of intra-firm network on family business succession is significant. For family business development to be influenced by entrepreneurial networks, budding entrepreneurs, founder and/or descendant CEOs and employees of family businesses need to be actively involved in network relationships that encourage and facilitates resource acquisition and sharing. Moreover, an empirical study is recommended based on these propositions. This is to validate the propositions and to further add to the family business development and entrepreneurial networks literature.

  • the Conceptual Consideration of the brand equity construction in professional sports team
    Journal of Sports Sciences, 2011
    Co-Authors: Wang Guoyan
    Abstract:

Sports teams generate an emotional response from their fans that is stronger than in any other industry. In an effort to capitalize on the emotional relationship they share with their fans, professional sports teams try to position themselves as brands.Because of the specialty of the sport industry, the research about the brand equity construction has important value. This paper puts forward the theory model of the brand equity construction which modifies from the research of Gladden and Mline(1999) and Richelieu(2004).Our results underline that the professional sports team could capitalize on the emotional relationship with fans, and set up the brand equity through planning brand management. Then the brand equity can generate the sustainable competitive advantages and benefits.

  • Constructing a ranking of higher education institutions based on equity: is it possible or desirable?
    Higher Education, 2020
Co-Authors: Tim Pitman, Daniel Edwards, Liang-cheng Zhang, Paul Koshy, Julie Mcmillan
    Abstract:

This paper presents findings from a research project which aimed to rank Australian higher education institutions on their ‘equity performance’; that is, the extent to which they were accessible for, supportive of and benefiting students traditionally under-represented in higher education. The study comprised a Conceptual Consideration of how higher education equity might be defined and empirically measured, drawing on extant scholarly research as well as observations from key stakeholders, including equity practitioners, researchers, policymakers and higher education executives and institutional planners. Based on these findings, a theoretical framework for higher education equity performance was constructed, and performance indicators identified and subjected to systematic assessment for real-world application. The ensuing ranking system was populated with institutional data from the 37 public universities in Australia. The findings from this analysis indicate that a ranking system may not be the optimal method for assessing higher education equity performance and highlights the subjective nature of both higher education equity and higher education ranking systems.

  • a Conceptual Consideration of the free energy principle in cognitive maps how cognitive maps help reduce surprise
    2018
    Co-Authors: Hsinyi Hung, Yushiang Su
    Abstract:

Abstract There is a nascent view that information processing in the brain can be characterized as Bayesian inference or predictive coding. The mechanics behind this results in the extension that the brain seeks to reduce its entropy and the experience of surprise over its environmental interactions. Critically, the manner in which surprise is reduced involves the generation of Bayesian priors in brain operations, which are ultimately hypotheses about the causes of its sensory and other internal experiences. In this chapter, we seek to annotate these recent theories of the brain as a statistical machine, reviewing the relevant concepts from physics, information science, and cognitive neuroscience. We propose that Bayesian priors specifically take the form of cognitive maps, which are coordinate transformation metrics between neural activity patterns and physical phenomena. We suggest such a view forms the basis for more precise future studies on the nature of information processes in neural networks.
