    Abstract:

    In the past years parallel machine tools (PMTs) havedrawn more and more interest for the advantages of high rigidity, low cost, high accuracy, high velocity and high acceleration. Parallel machine tool prototype Design includes Conceptual Design, kinematic detail Design, dynamic Design, etc. The Conceptual Design is an iterative, complex, decision-making and creative process. Conceptual Design mostly focuses on parallel manipulators enumeration in current research. The purpose of this paper is toprovide a computer-aided Conceptual Design approach for parallel machine tool Design. Firstly the Design procedure and system architecture framework of parallel machine tool is proposed. Then a virtual Conceptual Design method is put forward which includes three steps: (1) Design requirement specification. (2) Motion dispatching. (3) Parallel mechanism and other mechanism configuration Design. (4)3D modeling and simulation. The Conceptual Design software park for PMT is developed by UG development with Visual C++. The whole virtual Conceptual Design process and essential technique are illustrated by examples.

    In the past years parallel machine tools (PMT) have drawn more and more interest for the advantages of high stiffness, low inertia, high accuracy and high speed capability. Conceptual Design of PMT, an iterative, complex, decision-making and creative process, is a very important step of PMT prototyping Design flow presented in this paper, which includes Conceptual Design, dimensional Design, system modeling, performance analysis and etc. The purpose of this paper is to provide a computer-aided Conceptual Design approach for PMT prototyping Design, which integrated four different Design methods detailed discussed in this paper: PMT case based Conceptual Design, parallel mechanism based Conceptual Design, combined Conceptual Design and type/number synthesis based Conceptual Design. The Conceptual Design software park for PMT is developed by UG development with Visual C++.

    With the aim to share and reuse Conceptual Design process knowledge, the paper proposed to apply one knowledge discovery approach-DFSSM in product Conceptual Design. According to the feature of Conceptual Design, one new approach of product Conceptual Design based on DFSSM was implemented, in which the DFSSM could mine Design process knowledge from complex type data of Conceptual Design and the knowledge could be for the next Conceptual Design. So this method improved the automation degree of Conceptual Design, overcame the defects of expertise and achieved a cost-effective product innovation.
