  • autonomous transaction execution with epsilon serializability
International Workshop on Research Issues in Data Engineering, 1992
    Co-Authors: A Leff
    Abstract:

The authors study the feasibility of autonomous transaction execution in systems with asynchronous transaction processing based on epsilon serializability (ESR). The abstract correctness criteria defined by ESR are implemented by techniques such as asynchronous divergence control and asynchronous consistency restoration. Concrete Application examples in a distributed environment, such as banking, illustrate the advantages of using ESR to support execution autonomy. The ability for asynchronous transaction processing also supports efficient concurrent transaction and query processing. >

  • Multifactor Models: Examining the potential of signal processing techniques
    IEEE Signal Processing Magazine, 2011
Co-Authors: Emmanuelle Jay, Patrick Duvaut, Serge Darolles, Arnaud Chretien
    Abstract:

This article surveys the existing literature on the most widely used factor models employed in the realm of a financial asset pricing field. Through the Concrete Application of evaluating risks in the hedge fund industry, this article demonstrates that signal processing techniques are an interesting alternative to the selection of factors and can provide more efficient estimation procedure than classical techniques.

  • Spontaneous breaking of continuous translational invariance
    Physical Review D, 2012
    Co-Authors: Haruki Watanabe, Tomáš Brauner
    Abstract:

Unbroken continuous translational invariance is often taken as a basicassumption in discussions of spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB), which singlesout SSB of translational invariance itself as an exceptional case. We present aframework which allows us to treat translational invariance on the same footingas other symmetries. It is shown that existing theorems on SSB can bestraightforwardly extended to this general case. As a Concrete Application, weanalyze the Nambu-Goldstone modes in a (ferromagnetic) supersolid. We prove onthe ground of the general theorems that the Bogoliubov mode stemming from aspontaneously broken internal U(1) symmetry and the longitudinal phonon due toa crystalline order are distinct physical modes.
