Non-Intrusive Appliances Load Monitoring System Using Neural Networks
ACEEE, 2000Co-Authors: Y NAKANOAbstract:A non-intrusive appliances load monitoring system has been developed to ascertain the behavior of each electrical appliance in a household by disaggregating the total household load demand. This system does not need to intrude into a house when metering power consumption of each appliance. Therefore, the system has significant cost advantages and is less troublesome to the customers. This paper describes a non-intrusive monitoring system which is especially useful for inverter-driven appliances that frequently change their operational state. Conventional non-intrusive load monitoring systems cannot treat these inverter-driven appliances easily because of their complicated operation. In the developed system, the load consumption of household appliances is identified by the pattern recognition ability of a Neural Network (NN), which perceives the pattern of harmonics flowing out of the house. The patterns of current and phase at each harmonic order depend on what kind of appliances are in on or off. An air Conditioner, a refrigerator, an incandescent lamp, a fluorescent lamp and a television set were used as household appliances to obtain training data for NN’s learning. The inference ability of the NN from unknown data was simulated. From the simulation result, it was verified that the NN could identify the operating status and load consumption of an inverter-driven air Conditioner from the pattern of harmonics of the total household load. For this reason, the non-intrusive appliances load monitoring system for inverter-driven appliances such as air Conditioners is viewed as reliable.

Performance representation of variable-speed compressor for inverter air Conditioners based on experimental data
International Journal of Refrigeration, 2004Co-Authors: Shuangquan Shao, Wenxing Shi, Xianting Li, Huajun ChenAbstract:Variable speed control of compressors is one of the best methods to regulate the capacity of heat pumps and air Conditioners. An analysis is conducted for modeling the variable speed compressor for simulation of inverter air Conditioner and heat pump. Having scattered the real operation performance of inverter compressor into infinite operation performance of constant speed compressor, the map-based method is utilized to fit the performance curves of inverter compressor. The model is built at the basic frequency and the map condition as the second-order function of condensation temperature and evaporation temperature. Then it is corrected by the compressor frequency as the second-order function of frequency and by the actual operating condition as the actual specific volume of the suction gas. This method is used to set up simulation models of three different compressors. Compared with the data provided by the compressor manufacturers, the average relative errors are less than 2, 3 and 4% for refrigerant mass flow rate, compressor power input and coefficient of performance (COP), respectively. This model of variable speed compressor is suitable for the simulation of inverter air Conditioner and heat pump systems. Based on the experimental data and simulation model, the frequency at zero mass flow rate and power input at zero frequency are discussed and the relation between COP and compressor frequency is analyzed. © 2004 Elsevier Ltd and IIR. Comparative research on air Conditioner with gas-injected rotary compressor through injection port on blade
Applied Thermal Engineering, 2016Co-Authors: Baolong Wang, Xingru Liu, Wenxing ShiAbstract:Economizer technology has become a critical method to improve the performance of air Conditioners with rotary compressors in low ambient temperatures. A novel vapor injection structure on the blade of the rotary compressor has been proposed in previous research to overcome the back-flow of the traditional cylinder injection structure. Based on a verified numerical model, the performance of an air Conditioner adopting different economized rotary compressors has been investigated. The results indicate that: compared to the air Conditioner with single-cylinder rotary compressor using traditional cylinder injection structure, the air Conditioner with blade injected rotary compressor can reach enhancement of the heating capacity and COP by 12.9–15.7% and 1.5–4.1% in low ambient temperatures, respectively; and the air Conditioner with blade injected rotary compressor has a competitive performance contrast to the air Conditioner with twin-cylinder rotary compressor.

Development of an integrated air Conditioner with thermosyphon and the application in mobile phone base station
International Journal of Refrigeration, 2013Co-Authors: Linjun Han, Wenxing Shi, Penglei Zhang, Baolong Wang, Xianting LiAbstract:Spaces with high heat density such as mobile phone base station (MBS) and data center increase fast recently. Huge energy is consumed for the air conditioning because of large indoor heat rejection and year round cooling in these spaces. The integrated air Conditioner with thermosyphon (IACT) combines the vapor compression (VC) refrigeration and thermosyphon (TS) in one body, which can save energy and space for these spaces. After analyzing the problems in the existing IACT, a new IACT is proposed by using the novel heat exchangers and the self-operated three-way valve (STV), which works well in both VC and TS modes. The 3HP air cooled IACT is developed and tested in laboratory. The COP of TS mode reaches 9.43 when outdoor temperature is 20 ??C lower than indoor, and the COP of VC mode reaches 2.94 under standard condition. This IACT has been applied in MBSs of different cities in China and the energy consumption is tested on-site and compared with the traditional air Conditioners (TAC). It is shown that the IACT can save more than 30% energy compared with TAC. ?? 2012 Elsevier Ltd and IIR. All rights reserved.
