Energies, 2016Co-Authors: Injae Shin, Byung Kwen Song, Doo-seop EomAbstract:The open-platform communication (OPC) unified architecture (UA) (IEC62541) is introduced as a key technology for realizing a variety of smart grid (SG) use cases enabling relevant automation and control tasks. The OPC UA can expand interoperability between power systems. The top-level SG management platform needs independent middleware to transparently manage the power information technology (IT) systems, including the IEC 61850. To expand interoperability between the power system for a large number of stakeholders and various standards, this paper focuses on the IEC 61850 for the digital substation. In this paper, we propose the interconnection method to integrate communication with OPC UA and convert OPC UA AddressSpace using system Configuration Description language (SCL) of IEC 61850. We implemented the mapping process for the verification of the interconnection method. The interconnection method in this paper can expand interoperability between power systems for OPC UA integration for various data structures in the smart grid.

2015Co-Authors: Wolfgang WimmerAbstract:The present invention is concerned with simplified Configuration as well as supervision and testing of load restoration functions in high or medium voltage substations of electrical power transmission or distribution networks. The invention takes advantage of the fact that all information for load restoration is available from a standardized Configuration representation and from dynamically observable events. Specifically, the IEC 61850 Substation Configuration Description (SCD) file includes the substation single line, the bus bar or breaker failure protection functionality related to it, and the way how reclosing commands can be conveyed for the restoration process. A load restore function or load transfer application observes the execution of a protection trip function and the concurrent connection state of the bays (6.5, 6.6, 6.7) to bus bars (1.1, 1.2) in order to automatically restore the power flow across a failed bus bar segment (1.1) to a parallel healthy bus bar segment (1.2).

2013Co-Authors: A Gygax, Wolfgang WimmerAbstract:The present invention is concerned with a teleprotection system engineering process that starts with the generation of a Description of two teleprotection Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) (15,25) at two substations (10,20) connected via a teleprotection link (300), based on the intended functionality or semantics to be transferred between the substations and the needed telecommunication properties for this semantics. A corresponding teleprotection link definition (301) is used as a unique input for a co-generation of two IED Capability Description (ICD) files (TP_IED_A.ICD;TP_IED_B.ICD) representing the two teleprotection IEDs or IEC 61850 gateways. A single ICD generation module or function block (160) performs this task thus reducing the possibilities for erroneous manual input of the link definition data. The generation of the two ICD files occurs prior to, and hence independently of, any generation of Substation Configuration Description (SCD) files, i.e. before a detailed Substation Automation (SA) system engineering actually takes place.

The system comprises multiple tripping and closing hard press plate detection devices connected with an intelligent terminal and a control system connected with the intelligent terminal through a GOOSE net. According to the system and the method disclosed by the invention, through a chart-module integration technology, visual display of the hard press plate state is realized when overhauling safety technical measure is implemented; as a judging means for overhauling safety technical measure, the system and the method provide reliable technical guarantee for the safe operation of the intelligent substation.
