  • Three-dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy with Temozolomide in the Treatment of Postoperative Malignant Gliomas
Journal of Kunming Medical University, 2011
    Co-Authors: Zuo Pin
    Abstract:

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy and side effects of three-dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy concomitant with temozolomide in the treatment of postoperative malignant gliomas in Chinese patients. Methods Twenty-three malignant glioma patients previously treated with resection of the tumor received three-dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy with concomitant and adjuvant temozolomide chemothreapy. Results The overall response rate was 82.6%.The progression-free survival was 73.9%(17/23)at 6 months and 52.2%(12/23)at 1 year respectively. The one-year survival rate was 69.6%(15/23).All patients could well tolerate this treatment scheme. The main side effects were nausea and vomit. Conclusions Three dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy concomitant with temozolomide in the treatment of postoperative malignant gliomas demonstrates good tolerance and short-term efficacy.

  • image guidance for precise Conformal Radiotherapy
International Journal of Radiation Oncology Biology Physics, 2003
Co-Authors: T R Mackie, Wolfgang A Tome, G Olivera, J M Kapatoes, Lisa J Forrest, K Ruchala, Weiguo Lu, Chuan Wu, Jim Welsh, Robert Jeraj
    Abstract:

Abstract Purpose To review the state of the art in image-guided precision Conformal Radiotherapy and to describe how helical tomotherapy compares with the image-guided practices being developed for conventional Radiotherapy. Methods and materials Image guidance is beginning to be the fundamental basis for Radiotherapy planning, delivery, and verification. Radiotherapy planning requires more precision in the extension and localization of disease. When greater precision is not possible, Conformal avoidance methodology may be indicated whereby the margin of disease extension is generous, except where sensitive normal tissues exist. Radiotherapy delivery requires better precision in the definition of treatment volume, on a daily basis if necessary. Helical tomotherapy has been designed to use CT imaging technology to plan, deliver, and verify that the delivery has been carried out as planned. The image-guided processes of helical tomotherapy that enable this goal are described. Results Examples of the results of helical tomotherapy processes for image-guided intensity-modulated Radiotherapy are presented. These processes include megavoltage CT acquisition, automated segmentation of CT images, dose reconstruction using the CT image set, deformable registration of CT images, and reoptimization. Conclusion Image-guided precision Conformal Radiotherapy can be used as a tool to treat the tumor yet spare critical structures. Helical tomotherapy has been designed from the ground up as an integrated image-guided intensity-modulated Radiotherapy system and allows new verification processes based on megavoltage CT images to be implemented.

  • Effect and safety of three-dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy in the patients with pulmonary carcinoma
Journal of Hainan Medical University, 2014
    Co-Authors: Lu Qing-gan
    Abstract:

Objective:To observe and investigate the effect and safety of three-dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy in the patients with pulmonary carcinoma. Methods:Totally 70patients with nonsmallcell lung cancer in our hospital were enrolled and randomly divided into control group(conventional radiotheraphy group,n=35cases)and observation group(three-dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy group,n= 35cases),then the short-term effect, the total rates of radiation pneumonitis at different time after the Radiotherapy and FACT-L score before and after the treatment of two groups were compared. Results:The short-term effect of observation group were better than those of control group, the total rates of radiation pneumonitis at different time after the Radiotherapy were lower than those of control group,FACT-L score after the treatment were all better than those of control group(P0.05)all showing significant differences.Conclusion:Three-dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy shows better effects in the patients with pulmonary carcinoma, and it's safer,so it plays an active role in improving the life quality of patients.
