  • The Utility of Positive Orientation in Predicting Job Performance and Organisational Citizenship Behaviors
    Applied Psychology, 2012
Co-Authors: Guido Alessandri, Michele Vecchione, John Tisak, Giuseppina Deiana, Simona Caria, Gian Vittorio Caprara
    Abstract:

The contribution of positive orientation to organisational behavior has been assessed in three studies. Positive orientation has been conceptualised as a basic disposition to view life and experience from a positive outlook and operationalised as the common latent factor at the core of self-esteem, life satisfaction, and optimism. In Study 1 (n= 203), positive orientation predicted in-role job performance over the effects of its lower-order components (self-esteem, optimism, and life satisfaction), the Big Five, and positive affectivity. In Study 2 (n= 372), positive orientation predicted extra-role performance (Organisational Citizenship Behaviors), beyond the effects due to its lower-order components, the Big Five, and positive affectivity. In Study 3 (n= 311), a brief self-reported measure of positive orientation predicted in-role job performance above Core Self-Evaluations and the Conscientiousness Trait. The contribution of positive orientation to a better understanding of organisational behavior is discussed.

  • The Prediction Use of English Language Learning Strategies Based on Personality Traits among the Female University Level Learners
Indian journal of science and technology, 2012
    Co-Authors: Seyed Hossein Fazeli
    Abstract:

The current study aims to explore the prediction use of English language learning strategies based on personality Traits among female university level learners of English language as a university major subject at Islamic Azad University in Iran. Four instruments were used, which were the Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) of Rebecca L. Oxfords, A Background Questionnaire, the NEO-Five Factors Inventory (NEO-FFI), and the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Two hundred and thirteen Iranian female students volunteered to participate in this research study. The intact classes were chosen. The obtained results in this study show that the Conscientiousness Trait and the Extraversion Trait best predicted the overall use of Memory strategies of the students, and the Openness to Experiences Trait and the Conscientiousness Trait best predicted the overall use of Cognitive strategies, Compensation strategies, Metacognitive strategies, Affective strategies, and Social strategies of the learners.

  • The Relationship between the Conscientiousness Trait and Use of the English Language Learning Strategies
    International Journal of Linguistics, 2011
    Co-Authors: Seyed Hossein Fazeli
    Abstract:

The present study aims to find out the relationship between the Conscientiousness Trait and English Language Learning Strategies (ELLSs) for learners of English as a foreign language. Four instruments were used, which were Persian adapted Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL), A Background Questionnaire, NEO-Five Factors Inventory (NEO-FFI), and Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Two hundred and thirteen Iranian female university level learners of English language as a university major in Iran, were volunteer to participate in this research work. The intact classes were chosen. The results show that there is a significant relationship between the Conscientiousness Trait and use of the each of six categories of ELLSs.

  • Personality and safety citizenship: the role of safety motivation and safety knowledge
    Heliyon, 2020
Co-Authors: Julie Laurent, Nik Chmiel, Isabelle Hansez
    Abstract:

Safety citizenship behaviors (SCB) have never been classified following the intended beneficiary of these behaviors. The first aim of this study was to examine Hofmann et al. (2003)'s SCB items in an attempt to identify two dimensions: SCB oriented towards individuals (SCB-I) and SCB oriented towards the organization (SCB-O). Further, by drawing on Christian et al. (2009)'s model of safety performance, we examined how distal (i.e. personality) and proximal (i.e. safety motivation and knowledge) person-related factors are associated with these behaviors. Structural equation modelling realized on a sample of 290 workers from a Belgian pharmaceutical company showed that the broader Conscientiousness Trait was related to both SCB-I and SCB-O, indirectly through safety motivation and knowledge, as would be predicted by Christian et al. In contrast, the altruism facet was directly related to SCB-I only. Results are discussed and practical implications considered.
