    Abstract:

    Constant Monitoring of gait in real life conditions is considered the best way to assess Fall Risk Index (FRI) since most falls happen out of the ideal conditions in which clinicians are currently analyzing the patient's behavior. This paper presents the WIISEL platform and results obtained through the use of the first full-wireless insole devices that can measure almost all gait related data directly on the feet (not in the upper part of the body as most existing wearable solutions). The platform consists of a complete tool-chain: insoles, smartphone & app, server & analysis tool, FRI estimation and user access. Results are obtained by combining parameters in a personalized way to build individual fall risk index assessed by experts with the help of data analytics. New FRI has been compared with standards that validate the quality of its prediction in a statistically significant way. That qualitatively relevant information is being provided to the platform users, being either end-users/patients, relatives or caregivers and the related clinicians to ideally assess about their long term evolution.

    Abstract A tripartite model for conceptualising lack of awareness after brain injury is proposed. Careful assessment of the causes of unawareness must precede treatment. Treatment in early inpatient rehabilitation should balance the patient's need to know with the implications, both positive and negative, of not knowing, at that point in time, for that individual patient. The challenge to the therapist is one of Constant Monitoring of dynamic fluctuations in a patient's readiness (neuropsychological or emotional) over time to become more aware of losses without becoming devastated by shame or despair.

    Abstract:

    Obesity phenomenon has become a significant issue over the world. Obesity has various negative consequences that might impact not only the health but also the social and the economic issues. Current studies reveal the lack of patients' commitment to the doctors' instructions. In this paper, we propose a new cloud-based model with ultimate aim to monitor obese patients' health condition and behavior Constantly under a real-time vision of the caregiver. The proposed model provides a technical method to record, disseminates, and share knowledge and awareness among patients and caregivers. This model utilizes wireless body sensor network devices to measure heart rate; mobile web-service as a middleware to process the data from/to cloud knowledge-base and a caregiver backend/dashboard for the real-time monitor. A live test demo of the model experimented on 55 subjects to check its applicability and cost-effectiveness. The results were promised and prove its ability to help overcoming this disease.
