    Abstract:

    The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of harmonic context on the sightsinging skill of middle school choral music students. A nonrandomized control-group pretest-posttest design with one between-group (treatment method) and two within-group (trial and test context) factors was used. The treatment method used three harmonic contexts: (a) melody only, (b) piano harmony, and (c) vocal harmony. The trial Condition had two levels (pretest and posttest), and the test context Condition had four levels: (a) melody-only, (b) piano-harmony, (c) vocal harmony/upper with the melody in the higher of two voices, and (d) vocal harmony/lower with the melody in the lower of two voices. A repeated measures ANOVA revealed significant differences for the test context and trial main effects and for the trial by treatment group interaction; subjects obtained the highest sightsinging scores when tested in a melody-only context.     Abstract:

    Mobile location-based tourism applications provide guidance to the tourist on the move based on their preferences and context such as time and location. These applications depend heavily on the GPS which is used to determine the user location so as to deliver information that takes into account user preferences and context. However, the delivery of information that is relevant to the user in terms of their preferences and their Contextual Condition seem to be lacking in most of the applications. Semantic web technologies provide an opportunity to develop more intelligent location-based applications that would enable the delivery of information that is more accurate and relevant to the user. Thus, the objectives are; (1) to identify the benefits of leveraging semantic web technologies on the framework (2) to identify the techniques used to provide personalized activities recommendations based on the user preferences. (3) to identify the methods used to build user profile that contains user preferences. (4) to identify the key location-based component that needs to be integrated in the framework. A conceptual framework for personalized mobile location-based tourism apps leveraging semantic web to enhance tourism experience is proposed.

    Abstract:

    Today's mobile Internet service portals offer thousands of services and mobile devices can host plenty of applications, documents and web URLs. Hence, for average mobile users there is an increasing cognitive burden in finding the most appropriate service among the many available. On the other hand, methodologies such as bookmarks and resource tagging require a great arranging effort to handle increasing resources. To help mobile users in managing and using this personal information space, new levels of granularity should be introduced in the organization of services, together with some degree of self-awareness. This paper proposes a situation-aware service recommender that helps locating services proactively. In the recommender, a semantic layer determines one or more user current situations by using domain knowledge expressed in terms of ontology and semantic rules. A fuzzy inference layer manages the vagueness of some Contextual Condition of these rules and outputs an uncertainty degree for each situation. Based on this degree, the recommender proposes a set of specific resources.
