effect of laser Contrast Ratio on electron beam stability in laser wakefield acceleRation experiments
Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 2006Co-Authors: S P D Mangles, A G R Thomas, M C Kaluza, Olle Lundh, Filip Lindau, A Persson, Z Najmudin, C G Wahlstrom, C D MurphyAbstract:Laser wakefield accelerators offer the possibility of compact electron acceleRation. However one of the key outstanding issues with the results reported to date is the electron beam stability. Experiments on two laser systems reveal that the Contrast Ratio between the ASE pedestal and main pulse is an important factor in determining the quality of the electron beam. With a high Contrast Ratio (10^8) the electron beam profile is a well collimated single beam having a low pointing instability (<10 mrad rms). With a lower Contrast (10^6) the beam profile contains multiple beamlets which exhibit a large pointing instability (~50 mrad rms). Ahigh Contrast Ratio not only improves the beam pointing stability (~6 mrad) but also stabilizes the electron beam energy reproducibility (5%). (Less)

zirconia ceramics their Contrast Ratio and grain size depending on sintering parameters
Dental Materials Journal, 2014Co-Authors: Bogna Stawarczyk, Angela Emslander, Malgorzata Roos, Beatrice Sener, Falko Noack, Christine KeulAbstract:This study investigated the Contrast Ratio and grain size depending on sintering parameters of twelve different zirconia materials and compared with glass-ceramic (N=156, n=12 per group). Contrast Ratio of all ceramics was measured using a spectrophotometer according to ISO 2471: 2008. Grain sizes of zirconia were determined by SEM. Data was analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by post-hoc Scheffe-test, Kruskal-Wallis-H-test and Spearman correlation (p<0.05). The area under the sintering curve up 25°C (AUC25) and 1200°C (AUC1200) of zirconia was calculated. Glass-ceramic showed significantly lowest Contrast Ratio compared to zirconia. Final sintering temperature and AUC1200 influenced Contrast Ratio. Grain size was affected by final sintering temperature, sintering duRation and AUC. Contrast Ratio and grain size showed an association.

Transflective IPS‐LCD with improved reflective Contrast Ratio
Journal of the Society for Information Display, 2009Co-Authors: Kenichi Mori, Michiaki Sakamoto, Jin Matsushima, Daisuke Inoue, Kenichirou Naka, Ken SumiyoshiAbstract:— In order to improve the reflective Contrast Ratio of transflective IPS-LCDs, a novel pixel design for a normally white reflective IPS has been proposed. In this design, the large-inter-electrode-spacing layout using a novel driving method and a double-layered electrode have effectively reduced the light leakage. By applying these two technologies, a transflective IPS-LCD has been successfully demonstrated with a high Contrast Ratio (15:1) in the reflective mode and a wide-viewing-angle characteristic in the transmissive mode.

69.3: Transflective IPS‐LCD with Improved Reflective Contrast Ratio
SID Symposium Digest of Technical Papers, 2008Co-Authors: Kenichi Mori, Michiaki Sakamoto, Jin Matsushima, Daisuke Inoue, Kenichirou Naka, Hiroshi Nagai, Ken SumiyoshiAbstract:We devised the novel driving method for large inter-electrode spaces and the double layer electrode of the transflective IPS-LCD. Applying these two technologies, we developed the transflective IPS-LCD which had a high Contrast Ratio (15:1) in the reflective mode and wide viewing-angle characteristics in the transmissive mode. This reflective Contrast Ratio is well-improved in transfective IPS-LCDs.
