Leaching of chromium and barium from steel slag in laboratory and field tests — a solubility Controlled Process?
Waste Management, 2000Co-Authors: A.-m. FällmanAbstract:Abstract Differences in concentrations in leachates and leaching conditions were found in laboratory and field tests on electric arc furnace steel slag. Solid phases were assumed to control the leachate concentrations of chromium and barium. Geochemical modelling was used to indicate solubility controlling solid phases. The mineral BaSO4(c) and solid solutions of Ba(S,Cr)O4 were predicted to control the concentrations of barium and chromium in the leachates, respectively. These solids were not expected to be present as primary minerals in the steel slag but were rapidly formed, within 6 h.

Divergent Synthesis of 1,2-Benzo[ e ]thiazine and Benzo[ d ]thiazole Analogues Containing a S -Trifluoromethyl Sulfoximine Group: Preparation and New Properties of the Adachi Reagent
Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2019Co-Authors: Anne-laure Barthelemy, Elsa Anselmi, Giang Vo-thanh, Régis Guillot, Karinne Miqueu, Emmanuel MagnierAbstract:We report here the preparation of unprecedented analogues of 1,2-benzothiazine and benzoisothiazoleincorporating theS-trifluoromethyl sulfoximine group in their core. Using a stable precursor to start, cyclization occurs via acatalytic Controlled Process. The choice of the catalyst is crucial for selectivity toward thefive- or the six-membered ring.Interestingly, one of the benzothiazines can be converted on a gram scale into the trifluoromethylating Adachi reagent. We alsodisclose thefirst use of this reagent as a source of radical CF3under photoredox catalysis. DFT calculations were performed toclarify the cyclization mechanism.

Shear-induced formation of vesicles in membrane phases: Kinetics and size selection mechanisms, elasticity versus surface tension
Physical Review, 2004Co-Authors: Laurent Courbin, Pascal PanizzaAbstract:Multilamellar vesicles can be formed upon shearing lamellar phases and phase-separated lamellar- sponge mixtures. In the first case, the vesicle volume fraction is always 100% and the vesicle size is monitored by elasticity (‘‘onion textures’’) . In the second system the vesicle volume fraction can be tuned from 0 to 100% and the mean size results from a balance between capillary and viscous forces (‘‘Taylor droplets’’). However, despite these differences, in both systems we show that the formation of vesicles is a strain- Controlled Process monitored by a universal primary buckling instability of the lamellae.

ph driven hydrothermal syntheses of neodymium sulfites and mixed sulfate sulfites
Crystal Growth & Design, 2018Co-Authors: Jakob T Dovgan, Matthew J Polinski, Brandon Q Mercado, Eric M VillaAbstract:A family of four new neodymium(III) compounds containing either sulfite or a mixture of hydrogen-sulfate and sulfite ligands has been hydrothermally synthesized. The low solubility of lanthanide sulfite compounds has, in the past, made the isolation of single-crystalline products difficult. To obtain these phases, sodium sulfite (Na2SO3) and sodium bisulfite (NaHSO3) were employed as both anion sources and pH regulators. The in situ oxidation of sulfite to sulfate was Controlled by dictating the pH of the starting solutions with these ligands. Sulfites were found to form at a neutral pH, whereas, when the pH was increased, the oxidation of sulfite to sulfate was observed in the crystalline products. The products discussed herein reveal the pH Controlled Process of in situ oxidation in these hydrothermal reactions.
