    In the absence of a clear command and control structure, a key challenge in supply chain management is the Coordination and alignment of supply chain members who pursue divergent and often conflicting goals. The newsvendor model is typically used as a framework to quantify the cost of misalignment and to assess the impact of various Coordination initiatives. The application of the newsvendor framework, however, requires the specification of some probability distribution for the sources of uncertainty, and in particular, for the market demand. The specification of an adequate demand distribution becomes difficult in the absence of statistical data. We therefore consider a fuzzy approach to the newsvendor problem. We use several fuzzy parameters in the model for the demand, the wholesale price, and the market sales price. We solve the fuzzy newsvendor problem to study three Coordination policies: quantity discounts, profit sharing, and buyback. For each Coordination Policy, the optimal order quantity of the retailer is computed. The possible profits of the members in the supply chain are calculated with minimum sharing of private information. We further extend the fuzzy newsvendor model to a setting with a single manufacturer and multiple retailers under the assumption of ample capacity for the manufacturer. Detailed numerical examples are also provided.

    Abstract This paper develops and investigates four Coordination scenarios for a three-level supply chain system consisting of multiple suppliers, a vendor, and multiple buyers. One scenario considers consignment stock (CS) agreements between the adjacent levels (suppliers-vendor; vendor-buyers) in the supply chain. Another one considers traditional Coordination policies (TP). The two remaining scenarios are combinations of the two; i.e., CS-TP and TP-CS. The scenarios also consider trade credit where an upstream player offers a delay-in-payment to a downstream player. A scheme of equal-sized payments at equal intervals is adopted. Numerical examples are provided to compare between the scenarios and to study the effects of different cases of delay-in-payments on the total profit of the system. A sensitivity analysis is performed to test the effects of varying some parameters on the system's profit. The results showed that a combined Coordination Policy and paying post the due date return the highest system profit. The differences in the profits for the four scenarios were found to be insignificant under some conditions. This finding may give managers the flexibility to choose the one that is practical and serves its business better.

  • Supply Chain Coordination Model for Newsvendor-type Products with two Production Modes

    There are two problems in the existing supply chain Coordination models for newsvendor-type products considering two production modes and end-of-season second order.First,the expected profit of the supply in the centralized decision-making system,which is defined as the sum of expected profits of the manufacturer and buyer in decentralized decision-making system by existing related literature,is incorrect correct.Second,the Coordination Policy provided by existing related literature cannot make the system's expected profit achieve the maximum.In this paper,we first re-establish the supply chain Coordination model for newsvendor-type product with two production modes on the premise of correcting the mistakes of the existing related paper.Since the traditional Coordination policies fail to realize the Coordination,we then propose an improved revenue-sharing contract that can achieve perfect Coordination of supply chain.Finally,numerical examples are provided to show the superiority of our model.

    To reduce the cost of raw material manufacuturer,a joint replenishment problem was studied for a single-manufacturer single-retailer supply chain,by simultaneously considering fixed order costs for manufacturer's raw materials and retailer's products and the setup costs.Three replenishment models were formulated to study the impact of multi-echelon cooperation and multi-product joint replenishment on the costs of the channel and the parties.Properties of the optimal solutions to the proposed models were then analyzed.Finally,a Coordination Policy was proposed to achieve Pareto improvement.

    Abstract:

    The issue of order Coordination under the elastic demand was studied for a two-stage supply chain with one supplier and one retailer.To coordinate order cycle as well as annual demand efficiently in the supply chain,two strategies were proposed: Common Replenishment Epochs(CRE) and split of total freight.Under the framework of Stackelberg game,the Coordination model was developed for supplier and the optimal rate of discount was introduced for retailers.Then,the solving algorithm was discussed.Finally,a simulation test was conducted to demonstrate effectiveness and feasibility of the Coordination strategy.

  • Developing Coordination policies for paratransit and the transportation disadvantaged

    Abstract:

    Many social service agencies, for example, those serving the elderly, people with mental illness, or those in poverty and looking for work, operate their own van service for their own clientele. That type of service, if viewed regionally, is often duplicative and inefficient. The duplicative approach toward serving transportation-disadvantaged people has led to Coordination as a Policy response. However, key elements that Policy makers need to consider are usually not well understood or delineated. There are four key factors and six subfactors that should be addressed in the pursuit of statewide policies of transportation Coordination. The four key factors are to explicitly define what Coordination means, to pursue efforts of Coordination at the state level, to understand the political climate within which Coordination Policy will be presented, and to promote decisions on local Coordination support. Finally, a new model of service delivery, the Community Support Organization, is presented as one way to better achieve positive results when Coordination is pursued as a strategy for improving the efficiency and reach of local services to the transportation disadvantaged.
