The use of a polytrimethylene terephthalate/polyester bi-component filament for the development of seamless garments

They are widely used as power stretchable underwear, outerwear and sportswear for which the use of high elastic Yarns is indispensable . For seamless garments knitted with circular seamless machines, polyurethane (PU)/polyamide (PA) Core-Spun Yarn is commonly used as the base Yarn in a plating fabric to enhance the elasticity of the garment. However, the use of PU/PA Core-Spun Yarn has encountered some problems, such as the difficulty in size control and the ageing of PU elastic Yarn. In this study, the polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT)/polyester (PET) bi-component filament was used to replace the PU/PA Core-Spun Yarn for the development of seamless garments due to its excellent extensibility and elastic recovery property. The manufacturing processes, including knitting, pre-treatment, dyeing and finishing, were developed, and the end-use performance of the fabrics, which were respectively produced with the PTT/PET bi-component filament and PU/PA Core-Spun Yarn as the base Yarn and PA fiber as the face Yarn for seamless garments, was compared based on the five different mechanical and physical properties. The results show that the fabric made of the PTT/PET bi-component filament has much better dimensional stability, much better elastic recovery property and much better wrinkle resistance than those of the fabric made of PU/PA Core-Spun Yarn. It is expected that this study could help us to further exploit the use of the PTT/PET bi-component filament in the development of seamless garments in the future.Institute of Textiles and Clothin

Study on properties of elastic Core-Spun Yarns containing a mix of spandex and PET/PTT bi-component filament as core
'SAGE Publications', 2018Co-Authors: Hua T, Ns Wong, Wm TangAbstract:This paper presents a development of elastic Core-Spun Yarn containing a mix of spandex and polyethylene terephthalate/polytrimethylene terephthalate (PET/PTT) bi-component filament as core to obtain better Yarn properties, especially for elastic property. Eight types of Core-Spun Yarns, consisting of different core components with various values of linear density and covered with cotton fibers, were produced using a modified ring-spinning machine with a core spinning attachment. The influences of core components, linear density, and draw ratio of spandex on Yarn structure and properties were investigated. The experimental results demonstrate that Core-Spun Yarns containing a mix of spandex and PET/PTT bi-component filament have much lower Yarn stress decay as well as lower hairiness and CVm value of evenness compared to the Yarns using only spandex. For the Yarns containing a mix of spandex and PET/PTT bi-component filament, the Yarns containing 70 denier spandex have higher elongation and stress decay compared to the Yarns containing 40 denier spandex. The test results show that the elongation of Yarns containing a mix of spandex and PET/PTT bi-component filament increases with the increase of the draw ratio of spandex. The stress decay of Yarns containing a mix of 70 denier spandex and PET/PTT filament shows a similar trend to the elongation. Moreover, the Yarn samples containing a mix of spandex and PET/PTT filament as core exhibit good Yarn evenness, with very few thick places and neps, as well as low Yarn hairiness.Institute of Textiles and Clothing2017-2018 > Academic research: refereed > Publication in refereed journal201806 bcmaNot applicabl

Stretch knitted or woven fabrics can be made from core Yarns in which the core is an elastomeric filament such as Dorlastan®, Lycra®, Glospan®, etc., and the covering is made from staple fibers. Elastomeric Core-Spun Yarns are usually made on cotton, worsted, or woolen spinning systems. In this study, we briefly describe a method of producing a polyester/viscose covered Lycra core Yarn on a modified short-staple ring spinning frame. We also examine the polyester/viscose staple Yarn and the polyester/viscose Core-Spun Yarns produced on the modified system. The experiment and test results show that core positioning has a direct effect on the structure, properties, and performance of these Core-Spun Yarns.
