  • a diagnosis of potential Creep Settlement of jacked in pile using chin method
    2021
Co-Authors: A Bin R Zainudin, Kok Keong Choong
    Abstract:

Pile performance is one of the pile acceptance criteria and depends on the method of pile installation during the construction stage. Jacked-in pile is among the most popular method of pile installation in Malaysia. However, the Creep Settlement may be encountered on jacked-in pile as its installation causes the plunging force accumulated at the pile tip and push the pile upward when the jacking pressure was released. Therefore, a systematic approach is required to diagnose the condition of jacked-in pile and subsequently identify the suitable type of pile termination criteria. Chin method is the most widely used to diagnose the pile condition such as pile necking and mobilisation of pile load capacity. In this study, it is used to analysis the ultimate capacity and further identifying the potential Creep Settlement condition on jacked-in pile. Results show that the shaft resistance of jacked-in pile was greater than the driven pile with similar sizes and embedded length. Potential Creep Settlement on piles also can be identified using Chin method.

  • analysis of interaction between superstructure raft and foundation considering consolidation and Creep Settlement
    Journal of Building Structures, 2001
    Co-Authors: Pei Jie
    Abstract:

In this paper, the interaction between super-structure, raft and viscoelastic saturated soil foundation is studied. Based on a new method that can be used to calculate the transient deformation, consolidation and rheology of the foundation, a computer model is compiled. Analyzing the parameters in the viscoelastic model and comparing the results with the data of experiments, the reasonable parameters of the model can be obtained. Thus a reasonable model of viscoelastic foundation can be built from the laws of the consolidation and rheology. Analyzing the internal force of superstructure and raft, the law of internal force variation caused by consolidation and rheology are thus obtained.

  • full scale Creep test and back analysis of the long term Settlement of heavy loaded shallow foundations on a high rockfill embankment
    Computers and Geotechnics, 2019
Co-Authors: Dehai Jin, Erxiang Song, Zhiping Shen, Zhenjie Yang
    Abstract:

Abstract The long-term Settlement of heavy-loaded shallow foundations on a high rockfill embankment was studied using a full-scale field Creep test, in which four concrete platforms were constructed and loaded on the top of a 24-m-high rockfill embankment. The test programme was introduced, and the long-term deformation of the high rockfill embankment was analyzed based on the monitoring data. Then three-dimensional numerical simulation was performed, using a rheological model for the rockfill. When the model parameters were derived from the laboratory Creep tests, the numerical simulation seriously underestimated the long-term Settlement compared with field measurements. The model parameters were further back-determined using a two-stage back-analysis method. Reasonable agreement was found between the predicted results and the field measurements, not only for the surface Creep Settlement but also for the sub-surface Creep Settlement.

  • analysis for interaction between superstructure raft and foundation considering consolidation and Creep Settlement
    Chinese Quarterly of Mechanics, 2001
    Co-Authors: Wang Jianhua
    Abstract:

A new method for calculating the immediate, consolidation and Creep Settlement of foundation simultaneously is presented in this paper. This new method can analyze the interaction between the frame structure and the foundation for 3-D problem. In this problem, foundation is elastic and Creeping media, raft and frame is elastic. The govering equations can be obtained, by using the substructure method, Biot consolidation theory and rheology. Using Laplace transforms, the above mentioned governing equations can be converted into transformed domain. The transformed domain solutions of the governing equations can be got through numerical method and the time domain solutions can be obtained by the inverse Laplace transform.
