  • Health care policy development: a Critical Analysis model.
    Journal of Nursing Education, 2010
Co-Authors: Jean Logan, Carolyn D Pauling, Debra B Franzen
    Abstract:

: This article describes a phased approach for teaching baccalaureate nursing students Critical Analysis of health care policy, including refinement of existing policy or the foundation to create new policy. Central to this approach is the application of an innovative framework, the Grand View Critical Analysis Model, which was designed to provide a conceptual base for the authentic learning experience. Students come to know the interconnectedness and the importance of the model, which includes issue selection and four phases: policy focus, colleagueship Analysis, evidence-based practice Analysis, and policy Analysis and development.

  • FUZZ-IEEE - A software for electric-power fuzzy Critical Analysis
2004 IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems (IEEE Cat. No.04CH37542), 1
    Co-Authors: M. Dumitrescu, T. Munteanu, D. Floricau
    Abstract:

For Critical Analysis of the protected electric power element-protection system we built a complex software tool named "fuzzy event tree Analysis". We exemplified the Critical Analysis for the electric power protection system of radial and curled electrical line. The paper proposes and exemplifies how to use the fuzzy logic in the Critical Analysis of the faults including abnormal workings, for the most important elements in power systems. Fuzzy event tree method is used in performing the electric power protection system independent Analysis.

  • Trauma-Sensitive Schools and Social Justice: A Critical Analysis
    The Urban Review, 2020
Co-Authors: Stacy A. Gherardi, Ryan E. Flinn, Violeta Blanca Jaure
    Abstract:

The creation of trauma-sensitive schools has become an increasingly central focus of school reform and urban school reform in particular. While these initiatives have been framed as social justice imperatives, this framing warrants critique. This Critical Analysis surveys the history, models, and documented outcomes of trauma-sensitive approaches in K-12 education. Special attention is given to gaps in existing frameworks which lead to a decontextualized understanding of disproportionality, an apolitical conception of schools, and a deficit orientation toward families and communities. The authors advocate for the integration of social justice education into frameworks for trauma-sensitive schools as an initial step toward addressing these issues.

  • A Critical Analysis of Cultivation Theory
    Journal of Communication, 2014
    Co-Authors: W. James Potter
    Abstract:

This Critical Analysis of the "cultivation" literature reveals 3 conceptions of the term: (a) George Gerbner's macrosystem explanation of mass media processes and effects, (b) a pattern of operational practices that searches for relationships between television exposure and a wide range of cultivation indicators, and (c) a general forum of explorations of media influence where researchers break away from Gerbner's conceptualizations and boundaries. Using the criteria of heuristic value, empirical support, and precision, this essay evaluates the contribution this large cultivation literature has made to increasing our understanding of the mass media.
