    Abstract:

    Due to growing concerns around natural disasters, information technology (IT) complexity, increasing cyber-attacks, and the sensitivity of financial systems such that corporations may lose millions of dollars per minute if key Business processes are not available, corporations are finding the need to develop more resilient disaster-recovery (DR) architectures. For many years, corporations have Critical Business Functions that have relied on tape methods for DR. However, due to pressures from regulatory groups such as the FFIEC (Federal Financial Insurance Examination Council), there is a growing requirement to recover Business Functions faster than offered by tape solutions. As a result, application owners are challenged with more aggressive recovery-time objectives that necessitate the development of recovery solutions that offer a faster, near-continuous recovery of Critical Business Function. However, moving mission-Critical workloads from tape to a near-continuous method can be very expensive. This is true when dealing with legacy, multisite, heterogeneous workloads that have a Business process and governance model that prevents workloads from moving to a cloud-computing model. Nevertheless, to offset DR costs, emerging technologies such as cloud computing and virtualization can be used, along with existing underutilized server capacity, to form effective and affordable DR solutions that can accommodate heterogeneous and legacy workloads.

    Abstract:

    The concept of resilience is becoming popular in the Business continuity management debate and academic analysis. This interest is associated with the concern to develop a resilient organization that is able to absorb, adapt and recover quickly from unexpected events or changes to ensure continuous services or Critical Business Function and operations. Literature analysis from related articles found that resilience is still a relatively new concept and there are some unanswered questions on the definition of organization's resilience, the capacity that make up resilience and the mechanisms to enable the organization to remain exist and Functioning. Thus, this paper adds to the literature an understanding of the issues and modelling the capacity of resilience from the perspective of individual and organization's resilience.

  • Factors Influencing the Development of Information Systems Disaster Recovery Plan in the Ghanaian Banking Industry

    Abstract:

    Information systems (IS) have become an integral part of many organizations as they depend on it to execute their Critical Business Function. The purpose of this research was to explore the enablers and inhibitors of information systems disaster recovery planning in organizations in the Ghanaian banking sector. In order to achieve this purpose, the protection motivation theory and the theory of planned behavior was used as the theoretical lens for this study. Eight hypotheses were developed to test the research conceptualization. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 20.0. Using a survey of 207 managers in the Ghanaian banking sector, this article shows the factors such as perceived vulnerability, perceived severity, response efficacy, self-efficacy, attitude, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control positively influences motivation and intention to develop an information systems disaster recovery plan in Ghanaian banking industries.

    The research purpose was to design a procedure incorporated into the general methodological instrumental developed to manage the technology transfer process strategically in Ecuadorian manufacturing enterprises, specifically for small and mediums. The a forementioned allows the evaluation of new technological towards its inclusion into the technological heritage, embracing its three dimensions -technical-economic, social and environmental- as support for the associated decision-making processes with this Critical Business Function. It is performed Critical analysis of engineering and management methodologies and tools used in the assessment of technology investment projects in different contexts and scenarios, applied in SMEs Ecuadorian manufacturing, by following current legislation. As a result, an alternative solution is proposed combining the three dimensions of technology in a balanced way in a pertinent evaluation of technological options, associated with the strategic processes of technology transfer management.El objetivo de la investigación fue diseñar un proceder para gestionar estratégicamente el proceso de transferencia de tecnología en empresas manufactureras ecuatorianas, específicamente para las pequeñas y medianas. Esto permite la evaluación de nuevas opciones tecnológicas para ser incorporadas a su patrimonio tecnológico, integrando sus tres dimensiones (técnico-económica, social y ambiental) como apoyo a los procesos decisorios asociados a esta importante función empresarial. Se realiza un análisis crítico de metodologías y herramientas de ingeniería y de gestión utilizadas en, la evaluación de proyectos de inversión de tecnologías en diferentes contextos y escenarios, aplicados en las Pequeña Y Mediana Empresa (PyMEs) manufactureras ecuatorianas, conforme con la legislación vigente. Como resultado se ofrece una solución alternativa que integra equilibradamente las tres dimensiones de la tecnología en una evaluación pertinente de opciones tecnológicas, asociada a los procesos estratégicos de gestión de transferencia de tecnologías
