compact wavelength demultiplexing using focusing negative index photonic Crystal superprisms

We show that the main problems of the conventional superprism-based wavelength demultiplexing devices can be overcome by combining the superprism effect with two other main properties of photonic Crystals, i.e., negative diffraction and negative refraction. Here, a 4-channel optical demultiplexer with a channel spacing of 8 nm and cross-talk level of better than -6.5 dB is experimentally demonstrated using a 4500 μm2 photonic Crystal Region.

Information on amorphous area and reCrystallization process of poly(ethylene terephthalate) solids revealed by means of fluorescence measurements
Journal of Luminescence, 1997Co-Authors: Hideyuki ItagakiAbstract:Abstract The Crystallinity of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) solids was shown to be monitored by measuring PET fluorescence: fluorescence at 330 nm for Crystal Region and one at 370 nm for amorphous Region. Thus, the reCrystallization process of the amorphous Region was directly observed by annealing PET films above 380 K. The time change of the Crystallinity accompanied by the reCrystallization process was best fitted to an exponential function; time constant at 390 K was determined to be 33 ± 5 min.

Microenvironments in poly(ethylene terephthalate) film revealed by means of fluorescence measurements
Polymer, 1996Co-Authors: Hideyuki Itagaki, Yumiko Inagaki, Noritaka KobayashiAbstract:Abstract The fluorescence behaviour of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) films prepared by using a spin-casting method was measured. The wavelength of the fluorescence peak was found to be dependent on the casting temperature, T cast . This fluorescence is neither from a ground state dimer nor from an excimer. It is the red-shifted fluorescence of either the phenylene group or the phenylene exciplex due to interactions involving some contributions of charge-transfer stabilization among phenylene and carbonyl groups and/or phenylene groups. Both d.s.c. and i.r. measurements clearly showed that the fluorescence reflects whether the main-chain phenylene ring of PET is in the Crystal Region or in the amorphous Region.

Interaction of methemoglobin with GDA/n-C5H11OH/water assemblies.
Journal of colloid and interface science, 2007Co-Authors: Yongsheng Wang, Xia Guo, Rong GuoAbstract:In the present paper, we studied the interaction between n-dodecylammonium alpha-glutamate (GDA)/n-C5H11OH/H2O assemblies and methemoglobin by UV-vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, electron spin resonance (ESR), rheology, and freeze-fractured transmission electron microscopy (FF-TEM). It is found that W/O microemulsion forms at a lower n-pentanol content and O/W microemulsion forms at a lower water content with the addition of methemoglobin. The existence of methemoglobin reduces the hexagonal liquid Crystal Region, while the lamellar liquid Crystal Region is little changed in the presence of methemoglobin. Moreover, methemoglobin and GDA/n-C5H11OH/H2O assemblies can affect their structures and properties and the change in behavior is dependent on the content of methemoglobin and the composition and structure of the GDA/n-C5H11OH/H2O system. The relationship among the changes in the structure and properties of GDA/n-C5H11OH/H2O assemblies, the content of methemoglobin, and the composition and structure of GDA/n-C5H11OH/H2O assemblies may provide some important theoretical information for elucidation of the interaction between methemoglobin and blood cell membrane and may also be helpful for the cure of some blood diseases.
