  • An improved traceability system for food quality assurance and evaluation based on fuzzy classification and neural network
    Food Control, 2017
    Co-Authors: Jing Wang, Zenan Zhou
    Abstract:

Currently, the food safety incidents happened frequently in china and the Customer Confidence declined rapidly, then the problems related to food quality and safety have attracted more and more social attention. Considering the concern with regard to food quality assurance and consumer Confidence improvement, many companies have developed a traceability system to visualize the supply chain and avoid food safety incidents. In this paper, we proposed an improved food traceability system which can not only achieve forward tracking and diverse tracing like the existing systems do, but also evaluate the food quality timely along the supply chain and provide consumers with these evaluating information, to mainly enhance the consumer experience and help firms gain the trust of consumers. For the food quality evaluation, the method of fuzzy classification was used to evaluate the food quality at each stages of supply chain while the artificial neural network was adopted to derive the final determination of the grade of food quality according to all the stage quality evaluations. A case study of a pork producer was conducted, and the results showed that the improved traceability system performed well in food quality assurance and evaluation. In addition, implications of the proposed approach were discussed, and suggestions for future work were outlined.

  • activities motives and external factors influencing food safety management system adoption in malaysia
    Food Control, 2014
Co-Authors: Yudi Fernando, Yusliza Mohd Yusoff
    Abstract:

This study was conducted in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia to examine the characteristics of food companies, their food safety improvement activities, motives and external factors that influenced their decision on implementing the Malaysian food safety system (MeSTI). The study employs a survey questionnaire which was distributed to the respondents during food safety seminars, workshops and meetings. A total of 89 completed questionnaires were returned. The results indicated that the main motive for adopting a food safety system was to improve product quality, while external factors influencing food safety adoption was consumer awareness of food safety and the intension of industry to increase Customer Confidence. The results of the study suggest that, compared with perceptions toward food safety, there is significant difference in the motives to improve product quality, lowering the risk of compromising food safety and extending their market to foreign country among different groups in the food industry. The external factors influencing food safety adoption exhibit significant differences among the groups of perceptions in increasing Customer Confidence.

    International journal of business, 2018
Co-Authors: Paul Wambua Kavulya, Willy Muturi, Gladys Rotich, Kennedy Ogollah
    Abstract:

Purpose : To examine the effect of Customer focus strategy on the Performance of SACCOs in Kenya Methodology : The study was a cross-sectional survey with a descriptive research design. This design is appropriate because it is considered suitable for gathering information and generating appropriate conclusions with respect to the research questions. The target population of this study was the 181 authorized deposit taking SACCOs in Kenya that have been in existence for at least the last 5 years SASRA (2014). The firms which have been there for 5 years are considered to have adequate knowledge and have deposit mobilization strategies in place. The number of respondents was 181 CEOs and Business development managers, who are in charge of strategies. The study used questionnaires as the main data collection instrument that contained both open and closed ended questions. Questionnaires were preferred because they are effective data collection instruments that allow respondents to give much of their opinions pertaining to the research problem. Primary data was collected through administering of questionnaires to Members of the SACCOs, senior staff of the SACCOs and Cooperative Ministry/regulatory officials. The study employed descriptive analysis technique on the collected data. Multiple regression analysis was used to establish the relationship between the dependent and independent variables.  Results were presented using frequency tables and figures. Results: Correlation analysis showed that Customer focus strategy and performance of Saccos are positively and significantly associated. Regression analysis indicated that Customer focus strategy has a positive and significant effect on performance of Saccos in Kenya. The hypotheses results indicated that there is a significant relationship between Customer focus strategy and performance of Saccos in Kenya. Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: The study recommended that Saccos should ensure that they provide quality services to Customers. This will create Customer Confidence in the firms’ ability to deliver. Further, it was recommended that the firms should develop a friendly Customer-management relationship. In addition, the firms should adjust their pricing to ensure that they charge their Customers reasonable charges.

  • Retail level Blockchain transformation for product supply chain using truffle development platform
    Cluster Computing, 2020
Co-Authors: Rana M. Amir Latif, Muhammad Farhan, Osama Rizwan, Majid Hussain, Sohail Jabbar, Shahzad Khalid
    Abstract:

In any business network for record transactions, validation, and track assets, we have used a Blockchain platform, which is shared a distributed ledger that used cryptography techniques. Globally, there are different rules and operating procedures in the supply chain network. These regulations are used for end-to-end tracking between industries of different countries. The major problem faced today is asset traceability, and it is addressed with the usage of Blockchain technology. Greater asset traceability is provided using this technology. Throughout this research study, we suggest a commodity traceability network focused on blockchain technologies, which permanently stores all commodity history in a global database by way of smart contracts and creates a chain that can trace back to the source of goods. In particular, we built an incident response system to check the parties’ identity and ensure the legitimacy of the transaction. And all events are stored permanently in the form of logs to manage disputes and track accountable entities. Also, a device prototype is designed utilizing truffle research nets. Initially, a user login form is developed to make a part of the Blockchain, followed with a function to add an entry of the stock-keeping unit (SKU) into the Blockchain. The SKU is used for adding the product or item into the Blockchain, i.e., the product information is added like “Dairy Milk”, then one transaction is complete. The local languages like Urdu and Hindi are supported the SKU. All users of the retail network can be accessed the SKU “Id” of that product, and it can update the status of the product. So, the history of the product is saved in the block until the Customer block in-network, and the Customer can access it by using the QR scan code. Customer Confidence is increased, and Customer satisfaction reflects in sales.
