Data Dependency aware trust evaluation for service choreography
International Conference on Web Services, 2011Co-Authors: Longtao Huang, Shuiguang Deng, Ying Li, Jian WuAbstract:This paper proposes a novel trust evaluation method for service choreography. Compared with current work towards this problem, it considers not only the trust for individual partner services and the explicit trust relation among partner services that have logical dependencies for each other, but also the implicit trust relation implied in Data-dependencies among services. A serial of experiments, using the simulation tool Net Logo, are carried out to compare the evaluation results between the proposed method and the method without Data-Dependency consideration. The result shows that taking consideration of the Data-Dependency trust improves the accuracy of trust evaluation to a great extent.

ASP-DAC - Speeding up SoC virtual platform simulation by Data-Dependency-aware synchronization and scheduling
2010 15th Asia and South Pacific Design Automation Conference (ASP-DAC), 2010Co-Authors: Chung-yang HuangAbstract:In this paper, we proposed a novel simulation scheme, called Data-Dependency-aware synchronization and scheduling, for SoC virtual platform simulation. In contrast to the conventional clock-or transaction-based synchronization, our simulation scheme can work with the clock decoupling and direct-Data-access techniques to implement the trace-driven virtual synchronization methodology. In addition, we further extend the virtual synchronization concept to handle the interrupt signals in the system. This enables the porting of operating system (uCLinux) in our virtual platform. The experimental results show that our virtual platform can achieve 3 to 5 million-instructions-per-second simulation speed, or 44 times speed-up over the conventional cycle accurate approach, while still maintaining the same cycle-count accuracy.

Speeding up SoC virtual platform simulation by Data-Dependency aware virtual synchronization
2008 International SoC Design Conference, 2008Co-Authors: Chung-yang HuangAbstract:This paper presents a novel simulation technique for SoC virtual platforms at transaction level to achieve million-instructions-per-second (MIPS) level of simulation speed, while retaining accurate and detailed cycle information for system explorations. We first apply virtual synchronization concept to our simulation algorithm and then apply a novel Data-Dependency aware concept to determine precise synchronization points in simulation. Our experimental result shows that comparing to the traditional cycle-accurate TLM simulation, our approach is about 44 times faster with the simulation speed around 3.66 MPIS.

Automatically partition software into least privilege components using dynamic Data Dependency analysis
2013 28th IEEE/ACM International Conference on Automated Software Engineering, ASE 2013 - Proceedings, 2013Co-Authors: Y. P. Wu, Y.-d. Liu, Jun Sun, Jin Song DongAbstract:The principle of least privilege requires that software components should be granted only necessary privileges, so that compromising one component does not lead to compromising others. However, writing privilege separated software is difficult and as a result, a large number of software is monolithic, i.e., it runs as a whole without separation. Manually rewriting monolithic software into privilege separated software requires significant effort and can be error prone. We propose ProgramCutter, a novel approach to automatically partitioning monolithic software using dynamic Data Dependency analysis. ProgramCutter works by constructing a Data Dependency graph whose nodes are functions and edges are Data dependencies between functions. The graph is then partitioned into subgraphs where each subgraph represents a least privilege component. The privilege separated software runs each component in a separated process with confined system privileges. We evaluate it by applying it on four open source software. We can reduce the privileged part of the program from 100% to below 22%, while having a reasonable execution time overhead. Since ProgramCutter does not require any expert knowledge of the software, it not only can be used by its developers for software refactoring, but also by end users or system administrators. Our contributions are threefold: (i) we define a quantitative measure of the security and performance of privilege separation; (ii) we propose a graph-based approach to compute the optimal separation based on dynamic information flow analysis; and (iii) the separation process is automatic and does not require expert knowledge of the software.

FSKD - A complete XML Data Dependency model
2010 Seventh International Conference on Fuzzy Systems and Knowledge Discovery, 2010Co-Authors: Ning Wang, De XuAbstract:The main considerations in the existing XML Data Dependency models are the structural relevancies of XML nodes but not the information relevancies in XML Data which derive from the real world. In this paper, we propose an XML Data Dependency model (XDDM) based on entity segments. Our main objective is to make XML Data dependencies in XDDM match the information relevancies derived from the real world.
