Investigation of trellis based filters for tracking

IrwinAbstract:The authors seek to extend the work carried out by Demirbas (1981-1987) on the use of trellis diagrams for state estimation. Linear scalar examples are initially used to improve the accuracy of the algorithm and to highlight a lack of estimator robustness to modelling errors. This is subsequently overcome by using the measurement equation to propagate the trellis diagram. Nonlinear examples are then used to demonstrate estimator performance which is superior to that of the EKF. The extension to higher order systems uncovers further difficulties with the algorithm. These are examined using a linear tracking example, and overcome by quantising both the system and measurement noise sources. Finally, a nonlinear tracking example is considered and while, for this case, the trellis based algorithm does not perform as well as the EKF, the example helps to establish what conditions favour the use of the trellis based approach.

The scientometric evaluation of the research on the production of bioenergy from biomass
Biomass and Bioenergy, 2012Co-Authors: Ozcan KonurAbstract:Abstract The present study explores the characteristics of the literature on the production of bioenergy from biomass published during the last three decades, based on the databases of Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCIE) and Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) and its implications using the scientometric techniques. The results of this study reveal that the research output in this field has grown exponentially during this period reaching to 5892 papers in total with paralleling enormous changes in the research landscape. Papers are mostly journal articles, reviews, and proceedings, being predominantly in English. The US is the most publishing single country producing 27% of the output, but lagging significantly behind the Europe as a whole (near 50%). The “Chinese Academy of Sciences” is the most contributing institution where the most publishing author is “A Demirbas”. “Biomass & Bioenergy” is the most publishing journal whilst, “Energy & Fuels” is the most published subject area. The total number of citations is 82,732, giving a ratio for the “Average Citations per Item” as 13.83 and “H-index” as 102. The results of this first-ever such study of its kind show that the scientometric analysis has a great potential to gain valuable insights into the evolution of the research on the production of bioenergy from biomass.

The scientometric evaluation of the research on the algae and bio-energy
Applied Energy, 2011Co-Authors: Ozcan KonurAbstract:Abstract The present study explores the characteristics of the literature on the algae and bio-energy published during the last three decades, based on the database of Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCIE) and Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) and its implications using the scientometric techniques. The results of this work reveal that the literature on the algae and bio-energy has grown exponentially during this period reaching 717 papers in total. Most of document type is in the form of journal articles, reviews, and proceedings, constituting 98% of the total literature and English is the predominant language (97.6%). USA, China, Germany, and England are the four biggest contributing countries on the algae and bio-energy literature publishing, 26%, 8%, 8%, and 8% of the sample, respectively. The Chinese Academy of Sciences is the largest institutional contributor publishing 2.6% of the papers. The most publishing four authors are Wilhelm (13 papers) followed by Wu (15 papers), Mimuro (10 papers), and Zhao (9 papers). “Bioresource Technology” is the most publishing journal with 24 published papers, followed by “Journal of Applied Phycology” (17 papers), and “Biotechnology and Bioengineering” (15 papers). “Biotechnology & Applied Microbiology” is the subject area with 24.3% of the sample published. This is followed by “Energy & Fuels” (16.3%), “Marine & Freshwater Biology” (14.2%), and “Environmental Sciences” (12.3%). The total number of citations is 11,079, giving a ratio for the “Average Citations per Item” as 15.45 and “H-index” as 52. A list of most-cited 25 authors is produced and Chisti (2007) receives 320 citations with 80 total average citations per year. This paper is followed by Lewis and Nocera (2006; 296 citations), Demirbas (2001; 187 citations). Chisti (2007) has the highest impact on the literature on the algae and energy with total average citations per year of 80. This is followed by Lewis and Nocera (2006, 59.8 annual citations) and Chisti (2008, 41 annual citations). An analysis of the citing papers shows the impact of the research on the algae and bio-energy for the related academic disciplines. This provides further incentives for all the stakeholders of the research on the algae and energy, but especially for the researchers and their institutions and their countries to do more research in this area. The results of this first ever such study of its kind show that the scientometric analysis has a great potential to gain valuable insights into the evolution of the research the on algae and bio-energy as in the case of new emerging technologies and processes such as nanoscience and nanotechnology complementing literature reviews, content analysis and metaanalysis research techniques.

Authentically Preparing Early Childhood Special Education Teachers to Partner with Families

McdonnellAbstract:Engaging parents in their children’s education beginning in early childhood leads to improved academic and social outcomes for children (Brannon and Dauksas in PRISM: A Journal of Regional Engagement 1:94–105, 2012 ). In the field of early childhood special education (ECSE), teachers are likely to have frequent contact with diverse families, as the parent or guardian of a child in special education is a member of the individualized education program (IEP) team. A teacher’s confidence level, or self-efficacy, is associated with the quality of the learning environment, student academic outcomes, and the teacher’s ability to set and reach meaningful goals (Demirtas in Journal of Education and Training Studies 6:111–125, 2018 ). Therefore, ECSE teachers would greatly benefit from beginning their teaching careers with high levels of self-efficacy about collaborating with diverse families. The purpose of this study was to quantitatively measure, (a) ECSE student teachers’ self-efficacy building partnerships with families, and (b) how adequately ECSE student teachers felt their teacher education program prepared them to partner with families. The results of a national survey of ECSE student teachers are presented. Overall, respondents indicated they had high levels of self-efficacy partnering with families and that they were well prepared by their teacher education programs. Student teachers reported lower levels of self-efficacy working with families whose language differed from their own and partnering with families in the IEP process. Implications for practice are discussed by presenting various ways for teacher educators to prepare teachers to build partnerships with all families through authentic experiences in their teacher education programs.

Kültürel değerlerden geleneksel giysi ve aksesuarlar, ait oldukları toplumların kimliğini ve kültürel zenginliğini yansıtmakta, birçok bilgiyi günümüze taşıyarak ulusların geçmişlerini geleceklerine bağlamaktadır. Kültürel değerlerin korunması ve yaşatılmasında pek çok kurum ve kuruluşun yanında bireylere de önemli görevler düşmektedir. Giresun ili Şebinkarahisar ilçesi, tarihte birçok devletin hâkimiyetine tanık olmuş, Türk hâkimiyetine geçtikten sonra Şebinkarahisar'ın önemi artmıştır. Şebinkarahisar, uzun yıllar sancak beyliği ve vilayet olarak bir kültür merkezi haline gelmiştir. Cumhuriyet tarihinde Şebinkarahisar, 1933 yılına kadar il statüsünde kalmış; fakat tarihte yaşanan yangın, deprem gibi birçok olumsuzluk nedeni ile 1933 yılında Giresun iline ilçe olarak bağlanmıştır. Karadeniz ve İç Anadolu kültürünün yoğun bir şekilde yaşanıldığı ilçede geleneksel kadın giysileri, diğer yörelerden farklı olarak karakteristik bir özelliğe sahiptir. Günümüzde Şebinkarahisar ilçesi geleneksel giysi kültürünü yaşatmak için köylerin dernek yöneticileri ve folklor elçileri, farklı platformlarda bu giysi kültürünü yaşatmaya devam ettirmektedir. Çalışmada; Giresun ili Şebinkarahisar ilçesi geleneksel kadın giysi ve aksesuarlarını incelemek ve Şebinkarahisar geleneksel kadın giysi kültürünün yaşatılması için insan rolünün önemini Zeynep Demirbaş'ın yaptığı çalışmalar ile örneklendirmek amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmada betimsel yöntem kullanılmış ve Şebinkarahisar geleneksel kadın giysi kültürünü yaşatmak için çaba gösteren Zeynep Demirbaş ile görüşme yapılmıştır. Ayrıca Şebinkarahisar geleneksel kadın giysi ve aksesuarları için saha araştırması yapılmıştır. Özel koleksiyondan temin edilmiş giysi ve aksesuarların fotoğrafları çekilmiş, kalıp çizimleri yapılmıştır. Şebinkarahisar geleneksel kadın giysi ve aksesuarlarında kullanılan malzemeler, renkler, uygulanan model, kesim ve süsleme teknikleri betimlenmiştir. Çalışma sonunda, geleneksel giysi kültürünün yaşatılması için çaba gösteren gönüllü bireylerin desteklenmesi, ödüllendirilmesi ve literatüre kazandırılması ile ilgili önerilere yer vermiştir.Culture is tangible and intangible values formed according to the process of the people where they spend and live. Traditional clothing and accessories of cultural values reflect the identity and cultural wealth of the society to which they belong and brings the history of nations to the future by carriying lot of information today. The individuals have many important roles in survival and preservation of cultural heritage in addition to many organizations and institutions. Sebinkarahisar district of Giresun, witnessed the rule of many states in history, after the Turkish domination has increased in its importance after the Turkish domination and has become the standard cultural center as principality and province for many years. Sebinkarahisar became province until 1933 during the history of Republic; but it is connected to the town of Giresun province in 1933 because of the many adversities in history. Traditional women's clothing of Sebinkarahisar being experienced an intensive culture of Black Sea and Central Anatolia Regions has characteristic feature different from the cultures of other regions. Today, the presidents of associations and the representative of folklore in the villages continue to keep alive the traditional clothing culture of Sebinkarahisar district on different platforms. This study aims to examine the traditional women's clothes and their accessories of Sebinkarahisar district. Giresun and to illustrate the importance of the role of human with the works of Zeynep Demirbas in order to keep the culture of the traditional women clothing of Sebinkarahisar district alive. It is used descriptive method in this study and is personally interviewed with Zeynep Demirbas, who makes efforts to keep this culture alive. It is also conducted field research for the traditional women's clothes and their accessories. The photographs ofthe women's clothes and the accessories supplied from the private collections are taken and pattern drawings are made. The materials, colors, applied patterns, cutting and finishing techniques used in Sebinkarahisar traditional women's clothes and accessories are described. At the end of study, it is given some proposals on being supported, rewarded and added to the literature of the volunteers who makes efforts to keep the traditional women clothing culture alive
