    Abstract:

    Cellulase is useful for bio-polishing cotton Fabrics which enhances their aesthetic performance instead of stonewashing process. Torque-free ring spun process is a widely used technique to produce newly low-twist and balanced torque yarns with soft hand. In this paper, Denim Fabrics woven with torque-free ring spun yarn and conventional ring spun yarn respectively were treated with cellulase under the same condition and their Fabric handle, expressed as low stress mechanical properties, such as tensile strength, bending, shearing, compression and surface performance were investigated by Kawabata Evaluation System for Fabric (KES-F). After cellulase treatment, both Denim Fabrics revealed better flexibility, elasticity recovery, raised shearing stiffness, fluffier and improved smoothness. While torque-free ring spun yarn made Denim Fabric showed a better Fabric handle than conventional ring spun yarn made Denim Fabric.

    Abstract:

    Artificial neural network (ANN) model was used for predicting colour properties of 100% cotton Denim Fabrics, including colour yield (in terms of K/S value) and CIE L*, a*, b*, C*, and h° values, under the influence of cellulase treatment with various combinations of cellulase processing parameters. Variables examined in the ANN model included treatment temperature, treatment time, pH, mechanical agitation, and Fabric yarn twist level. The ANN model was compared with a linear regression model where the ANN model produced superior results in the prediction of colour properties of cellulase-treated 100% cotton Denim Fabrics. The relative importance of the examined factors influencing colour properties was also investigated. The analysis revealed that cellulase treatment processing parameters played an important role in affecting the colour properties of the treated 100% Denim cotton Fabrics.

    Abstract:

    In this article, the effect of enzyme treatment using neutral cellulase on the color fading property of cotton Denim Fabric was studied. Four enzyme processing parameters namely treatment temperature, treatment time, pH value, and agitation were considered. To investigate the optimum condition for the enzyme treatment, an orthogonal analysis was used and, based on the K/S summation value (K/S Sum), the optimum condition for enzyme treatment in this study was treatment temperature = 50°C; treatment time = 30 min; pH value = 8; and agitation = 50 steel balls (simulated mild agitation) for the best color fading achievement with desired worn and aged effect. Meanwhile, the level of importance based on the orthogonal analysis was in the order: treatment temperature > treatment time > agitation > pH and the effect of each processing factors was also discussed. In addition, other properties like CIE Lab values, weight loss, and color fastness to laundering and crocking were also evaluated. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2011

    ABSTRACTElastic performance coefficient (EPC) and recovery behavior of Denim Fabrics prepared with cotton/lycra core spun stretch yarns have been presented in this article. The Denim Fabrics are woven as broken twill weaves in an air-jet weaving machine by the insertion of core spun yarns (lycra filament in core, cotton fiber on sheath) as weft and using 100% cotton yarns as warp. The effect of linear density and stretch percentage of the core spun weft yarns on tensile and recovery behavior of Denim Fabric have been investigated by employing full factorial design of experiments. It has been observed that the tensile strength and EPC of Fabric increase with decrease in linear density and stretch percentage of the core spun stretch yarn. The immediate elastic recovery and delayed elastic recovery increase with decrease in linear density and stretch percentage of the yarns.

    Abstract:

    Torque-free ring spinning is a new spinning technology that produces yarns with low twist and balanced torque. This study examined whether the impact of cellulase treatment was different on Denim Fabrics having torque-free ring spun yarn in the warp direction. Commercially produced torque-free ring spun cotton yarn was used for manufacturing Denim Fabric. One specimen of Denim Fabric had torque-free ring spun yarn in the warp direction and conventional ring spun yarn in the weft direction while the other had normal conventional ring spun yarn in both warp and weft directions. Both warp yarns of the Fabrics were dyed with the same indigo dyeing process. The Denim Fabric samples were treated with neutral cellulase under the same conditions, and weight change and color properties, such as reflectance, K/S value, CIE Lab values, and color fastness ratings, were measured.
