    Abstract:

    Most modern programming systems such as Java allow us to link independently developed components together dynamically. This makes it possible to develop and Deploy Software on a per component basis. However, a number of Java developers have reported a problem, ironically called the version barrier, imposed by the strict separation of namespaces. The version barrier prohibits one component from passing an instance to another component if each component contains that class type. This paper introduces a novel concept for Java namespaces, called sister namespaces, to address this problem. Sister namespaces can relax the version barrier between components. The main purpose of this paper is to provide a mechanism for relaxing the version barrier, while still allowing type-safe instance accesses between componehts with negligible performance penalties in regular execution.

    Abstract:

    As cloud computing is gaining popularity, an important question is how to optimally Deploy Software applications on the offered infrastructure in the cloud. Especially in the context of mobile computing where Software components could be offloaded from the mobile device to the cloud, it is important to optimize the Deployment, by minimizing the network usage. Therefore we have designed and evaluated graph partitioning algorithms that allocate Software components to machines in the cloud while minimizing the required bandwidth. Contrary to the traditional graph partitioning problem our algorithms are not restricted to balanced partitions and take into account infrastructure heterogenity. To benchmark our algorithms we evaluated their performance and found they produce 10%-40% smaller graph cut sizes than METIS 4.0 for typical mobile computing scenarios. Highlights? Algorithms for partitioning Software on the cloud are presented. ? KL-based algorithm allows fast partitioning for realtime use. ? Simulated annealing improves solution quality at the cost of computation capacity. ? Hybrid approach combines both. ? Comparison to METIS shows our algorithms find 10%-40% better graph cuts.

    Cloud computing is quickly becoming pervasive in today’s globally integrated networks. The cloud offers organizations opportunities to potentially Deploy Software and data solutions that are accessible through numerous mechanisms, in a multitude of settings, at a reduced cost with increased reliability and scalability. The increasingly pervasive and ubiquitous nature of the cloud creates an environment that is potentially conducive to security risks. While previous discussions have focused on security and privacy issues in the cloud from the end-users perspective, minimal empirical research has been conducted from the perspective of a corporate environment case study. This paper presents the results of an initial case study identifying real-world information security documentation issues for a Global Fortune 500 organization, should the organization decide to implement cloud computing services in the future. The paper demonstrates the importance of auditing policies, standards and guidelines applicable to cloud computing environments along with highlighting potential corporate concerns. The results from this case study has revealed that from the 1123 ‘relevant’ statements found in the organization’s security documentation, 175 statements were considered to be ‘inadequate’ for cloud computing. Furthermore, the paper provides a foundation for future analysis and research regarding implementation concerns for corporate cloud computing applications and services.

In this paper, we propose an architecture that integrates a vehicular fog (VF) composed of vehicles clustered in a parking lot with a fixed fog node at the access network and the central cloud. We investigate the problem of energy efficient Software matching in the VF considering different approaches to Deploy Software packages in vehicles.
