    Abstract:

    Background. Dental caries is one of the most prevalent chronic disease of people worldwide, and also Indonesia. Based on Indonesian Basic Research from  Health Department , prevalence of dental caries in Indonesia was 90.5%. When dental caries rates are reported by gender, female are found to exhibit higher prevalence rates than male. Dental caries is disease of lifetime because it can spread out more throughout life and will continue until the teeth are destroyed without a proper treatment.  Purpose. The aim of this study is to analyze the prevalence of posterior teeth caries by the Depth of Cavity, age, and gender at RSGM FKG UNAIR.  Method. Analytic observational study with cross-sectional and stratified random sampling method. Result. Out of 420 patients with teeth caries, 169 male patients (40.2 %) and 251 female patients (59.8 %). The highest prevalence is deep caries (59.76%) and the lowest prevalence is superficial caries (15.95%). Conclusion. It was concluded that there is  correlation between the Depth of Cavity increase by age and female has higher caries prevalence than male but no significance differences between Cavity Depth and gender.

    Abstract:

    The aim of this paper is investigating the forced convection heat transfer in a channel with transverse rectangular cavities using the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) which is not available in the literature yet. The effects of the Reynolds number (100–400), Cavity aspect ratio ([Formula: see text], 0.5, 1.0), distance of cavities from each other ([Formula: see text]) in fixed Depth of Cavity ([Formula: see text]) on the velocity and temperature profiles are studied. Moreover, the flow patterns such as deflection and re-circulation zone inside the cavities are obtained. The local and averaged Nusselt numbers on the channel walls are achieved. The results show that the channel with cavities achieves heat transfer enhancements relative to the smooth channel. For the constant Cavity aspect ratio, the maximum value of averaged Nusselt number in the channel is obtained in the case of [Formula: see text]. Heat transfer to the working fluids increases significantly by increasing the aspect ratio. The existed results are used to ascertain the validity of the numerical code and excellent agreement between results was found.

    Abstract:

    Design A case–control study was carried out at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in the US. Participant selection Dental charts from the university's dental clinical were audited for patients who had a single-cast crown between 1 January 1998 and 31 December 2002. Cases were defined as individuals who underwent root canal treatment at some time after the insertion of a single-cast crown up to 1 July 2004. The control group consisted of people who did not have root canal treatment after the insertion of a full-cast crown. Data analysis A list of 24 clinical factors was compared between groups ( Table 1 ). Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to determine which preoperative nonprocedural factors were predictive of root canal treatment subsequent to a full-cast crown. Ninety-two subjects were initially determined to be eligible cases; ninety-two subjects were also therefore randomly selected from the remaining 3265 subjects to make up the control group. Twenty-six of the cases and 21 members of the control group were excluded because of incomplete records. The final case and control groups comprised 66 and 71 subjects respectively.
