    Abstract:

    This article examines BIBFRAME 2.0 from the viewpoint of a Metadata schema for diverse Descriptive Metadata about bibliographic resources, that is, whether the present BIBFRAME is suitable for the exchange and sharing of such Metadata. First, an overview of the BIBFRAME model built with core classes and properties is provided. Secondly, under the multi-class structure of BIBFRAME, a way of defining the domain of the properties in BIBFRAME is examined. Thirdly, possible other ways of defining the properties' domain are discussed and compared with that of BIBFRAME. Finally, a more suitable way of defining the domain is explored.

    Abstract:

    In this article recording evidence for data values in addition to the values themselves in bibliographic records and Descriptive Metadata is proposed, with the aim of improving the expressiveness and reliability of those records and Metadata. Recorded evidence indicates why and how data values are recorded for elements. Recording the history of changes in data values is also proposed, with the aim of reinforcing recorded evidence. First, evidence that can be recorded is categorized into classes: identifiers of rules or tasks, action descriptions of them, and input and output data of them. Dates of recording values and evidence are an additional class. Then, the relative usefulness of evidence classes and also levels (i.e., the record, data element, or data value level) to which an individual evidence class is applied, is examined. Second, examples that can be viewed as recorded evidence in existing bibliographic records and current cataloging rules are shown. Third, some examples of bibliographic records and Descriptive Metadata with notes of evidence are demonstrated. Fourth, ways of using recorded evidence are addressed. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

    Abstract:

    In the area of enterprise information integration, enterprise services are usually pre-defined and constructed before being supplied to users traditionally. However, with the rising of users’ individuation needs, constructing and offering every user with the very service that can meet their needs by service provider is impossible and costly. In order to solve this problem, a new method of dynamic constructing and offering services defined by users themselves is put forward in this paper. Firstly, the framework of the service integration system is illustrated. Then, a formalized definition of enterprise services is brought forward. Based on the definition, a meta-model extended with semantic is constructed by RDF (Resource Describe Framework). Metadata defined based on the meta-model can describe the constructive components of a service and their communications. Users can define specific service by subscribing service Descriptive Metadata. After subscription, services can be called and system will parse the service Metadata and dynamic create the service according to the service structure and components operation logic specified in the Metadata. At last, a scenario is provided to demonstrate how the meta-model can be used to support the dynamic component-based construction of services.
