With the continuous development of cloud computing technology, the application of virtualized cloud Desktop in university computer laboratory has become an inevitable trend. This text analyzes the disadvantages of traditional Desktop Deployment mode and the advantages of virtualized cloud Desktop based on the construction status of computer rooms in universities, and studies, discusses how to apply Desktop virtualization technology to build an experimental teaching environment of virtualized cloud Desktop, that is easy to manage, flexible to deploy, resource-sharing and convenient to maintain.

    Diplomsko delo obravnava tanke odjemalce in oblike virtualizacije. Predstavljene so možnosti zamenjave debelih odjemalcev s tankimi odjemalci v podjetju HIT d.d., Nova Gorica. Prikazana je testna postavitev strukture tankih klientov in virtualnega namizja. Primerjava stroškov vpeljave tankih odjemalcev in debelih odjemalcev z virtualnim namizjem je pokazala, da so slednji sprejemljivejši. Vzpostavljena je bila testna virtualna učilnica z debelimi odjemalci. Te poganja operacijski sistem Lubuntu z grafičnim vmesnikom LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment). Na odjemalca je nameščen program rDesktop za dostopanje do oddaljenih namizij. Uporabljen je protokol RDP. Strežniški del temelji na VMware ESXI z več virtualnimi stroji z operacijskim sistemom Windows 7. Ti so bili izdelani s postopkom pretvorbe P2V (Physical-to-Virtual) in kloniranjem. Prikazane so nastavitve gostiteljskega in gostujočega operacijskega sistema.This dissertation evaluates thin clients and different types of virtualisation. The possibility of PC clients being replaced by thin clients at HIT d.d., a Nova Gorica company is considered. An example of a test structure of thin clients and virtual Desktop Deployment is given. The cost comparison of thin clients and thick clients with virtual Desktop implementation has shown that the latter are more acceptable. Test virtual classroom with thick clients was configured. The thick clients were powered by the Lubuntu operating system with LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment) graphic interface. The rDesktop program was installed onto the client in order to access the remote Desktops. The RDP protocol was used. The server part is based on VMware ESXI with more virtual machines running Windows 7 operation system. These were made with P2V (Physical-to-Virtual) conversion and further cloning. The configuration settings of host and guest operation system are presented

    Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli löytää yritykselle automatisoitu tapa asentaa käyttöjärjestelmiä uusiin sekä vanhoihin työasemiin. Tavan oli tarkoitus korvata käytöstä poistunut SCCM sekä manuaalinen käyttöjärjestelmien asennus. Työssä selvennettiin automatisoidun käyttöjärjestelmäjakelun hyötyjä ja pohdittiin tilaajan tarpeita käyttöjärjestelmäjakelun osalta. Käytännön osuudessa asennettiin, käyttöönotettiin ja tutkittiin Windows Deployment Serviceen ja Microsoft Deployment Toolkitiin pohjautuvaa käyttöjärjestelmäjakelua. Opinnäytetyö on sisällöltään hyvin tekninen ja sisältää paljon kuvia asennuksen eri vaiheista, kohta kohdalta ymmärtämisen helpottamiseksi. Opinnäytetyön käytännön vaihe on kuvattu työssä vain tilaajan käytön näkökulmasta, joten se ei sovi sellaisenaan käytettäväksi muissa ympäristöissä. Opinnäytetyön tavoite saavutettiin. Uuden ohjelmiston todettiin helpottavan huomattavasti asentajan työtaakkaa, ja järjestelmän asennuksen yhteydessä esiintyvän yllättävän vähän ongelmia. Näistä ongelmista suurimmaksi havaittiin Windowsin lisensointikysymys. Suurin muutos havaittiin tapahtuneen asennuksen nopeudessa, jossa käyttöjärjestelmien jakelu tapahtuu työn ansiosta nyt muutamissa tunneissa, kun ennen siihen meni päiviä. Opinnäytetyön tilaajana toimi Transtech Oy. Opinnäytetyön ymmärtäminen vaatii hyvää perusosaamista Windows-pohjaisesta palvelinympäristöstä, ja aiempi kokemus käyttöjärjestelmäjakelusta on lukijalle eduksi.The goal for the thesis was to find an automatic way of installing and deploying operating systems to both new as well as used computer Desktops. The main point was to replace the mainly unused SCCM system and to substitute the manual installation process. The subject matter delved deep into the benefits of automated operating system Deployment, and analyzed the Deployment needs of the company in question. The practical part of my thesis consisted of installing, initializing and scrutinizing Windows Deployment Services and the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit. The thesis is very technical in nature and includes several images explaining the different steps of the installation. The practical part is described from the client’s standpoint, so the thesis is not applicable to different systems as-is. The goal for the thesis was met. The new software makes life easier for the worker and the installation process went surprisingly smoothly. The biggest problem faced during the installation process was Windows licensing issues. The largest difference to the old system was found to be in the new system’s speed, where the installation of a new operating system now took only hours compared to days. The client for this thesis was Transtech Oy. A prerequisite for understanding everything that is told about in this thesis is some basic knowledge of Windows server environments and it would be beneficial for the reader to have some earlier experience on Desktop Deployment
