Therefore, understanding software Development Problem factors can help in not only reducing the incidence of project failure but can also ensure software maintainability. This study focuses on those software Development Problem factors which may possibly affect software maintainability. Twenty-five Problem factors were classified into five dimensions; a questionnaire was designed and 137 software projects were surveyed. A K-means cluster analysis was performed to classify the projects into three groups of low, medium and high maintainability projects. For projects which had a higher level of severity of Problem factors, the influence on software maintainability becomes more obvious. The influence of software process improvement (SPI) on project Problems and the associated software maintainability was also examined in this study. Results suggest that SPI can help reduce the level of severity of the documentation quality and process management Problems, and is only likely to enhance software maintainability to a medium level. Finally, the top 10 list of higher-severity software Development Problem factors was identified, and implications were discussed.

These morphogens are encoded by different genes, including the GAP genes, maternal coordination genes and pair-rule genes. One of the maternal coordination genes encodes the Bicoid morphogen, which is the responsible for the Development of the Drosophila embryo at the anterior part and for the control and regulation of the GAP genes in segmentation of the early Development of the Drosophila melanogaster. The work presented in this document, reports a methodology that tends to integrate mechanistic and data driven based models, aiming at making inference over the mRNA Bicoid from gene expression data at the protein level for the Bicoid morphogen. The fundamental contribution of this work is the description of the concentration gradient of the Bicoid morphogen in the continuous spatio-temporal domain as well as the output regression (gene expression at protein level) using a Gaussian process described by a mechanistically inspired covariance function. Regression results and metrics computed for the Bicoid protein expression both in the temporal and spatial domains, showed outstanding performance with respect to reported experiments from previous studies. In this paper, a correlation coefficient of r = 0.9758 against a correlation coefficient of r = 0.9086 is being reported, as well as a SMSE of 0.0303±0.1512 against a SMSE of 0.1106±0.5090 and finally reporting a MSLL of −1.7036 ± 1.3472 against −1.0151±1.7669.

Integration of QFD, AHP, and LPP methods in supplier Development Problems under uncertainty

Last researches used linear physical programming (LPP) procedure to optimize QFD; however, QFD issue involved uncertainties, or fuzziness, which requires taking them into account for more realistic study. In this paper, a set of fuzzy data is used to address linguistic values parameterized by triangular fuzzy numbers. Proposed integrated approach including analytic hierarchy process (AHP), QFD, and LPP to maximize overall customer satisfaction under uncertain conditions and apply them in the supplier Development Problem. The fuzzy AHP approach is adopted as a powerful method to obtain the relationship between the customer requirements and engineering characteristics (ECs) to construct house of quality in QFD method. LPP is used to obtain the optimal achievement level of the ECs and subsequently the customer satisfaction level under different degrees of uncertainty. The effectiveness of proposed method will be illustrated by an example.

Performance implications of stage-wise lead user participation in software Development Problem solving
Decision Support Systems, 2014Co-Authors: J ColazoAbstract:The Problem-solving view of new product Development sees the innovation process as a series of Problem-solving loops broken down into three stages: Problem detection, analysis and removal. We link this framework with lead user-driven innovation regarding software and show that effort by lead users (LUs) in each stage of the innovation Problem solving process is, in varying degrees, associated with the source code's quality, the productivity of the Development process and the software's popularity. We also test whether front loading the Problem solving process is associated with Development performance and we find that front loading is associated with increased code quality but decreased Development productivity. Empirical tests are carried out with data from open source software projects. Findings potentially impact the design and management of online communities to help product Development.
