Journal of Fluorine Chemistry, 2010Co-Authors: Benoit Gourdet, Kuldip Singh, Alison M Stuart, Jose A VidalAbstract:Abstract A series of Dibenzo-18-Crown-6 lariat ethers containing two C7H15 (11), (CH2)2C6F13 (14), (CH2)2C8F17 (15), NHC7H15 (18) and NHCH2C6F13 (19) sidearms were prepared and the single crystal X-ray structure of cis-4,4′-di(1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecyl)-Dibenzo-18-Crown-6 (15a) is reported. The “light fluorous” Dibenzo-18-Crown-6 ether (14) has emerged as a stable and robust PTC catalyst, which can be recycled efficiently by fluorous solid-phase extraction, and gives better PTC catalytic activity compared to the parent, non-fluorinated PTC catalyst, Dibenzo-18-Crown-6, and the alkylated derivative (11) in aliphatic and aromatic nucleophilic substitutions.

Analytica Chimica Acta, 2012Co-Authors: Vinod Kumar Gupta, Ashok Kumar Singh, Naveen MerguAbstract:Abstract Beryllium(II) selective electrodes have been fabricated based on poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) matrix membranes containing newly synthesized neutral carrier dibenzo(perhydrotriazino)aza-14-crown-4 ethers as ionophore. Best performance was exhibited by the membrane having a composition ionophore (IIa):PVC:sodium tetraphenylborate (NaTPB):tributyl phosphate (TBP) in the ratio (w/w; mg) of 5:30:3:65. This membrane worked well over a wide concentration range 7.6 × 10 −6 to 1.0 × 10 −1 M of Be 2+ with a Nernstian slope of 30.7 mV per decade of beryllium activity. The response time of the sensor is 15 s and the membrane can be used over a period of 4 months with good reproducibility. The proposed electrode works well in a wide pH range 3.0–9.0. It was successfully applied to the determination of beryllium in a mineral sample.
