Diode Array pumped er yb phosphate glass laser
Applied Physics Letters, 1992Co-Authors: Andrew J Hutchinson, Toomas H. AllikAbstract:A Diode‐Array side‐pumped Er, Yb: phosphate glass laser has been constructed. Pumped with two 970 nm, InGaAs strained‐layer Diode Arrays, a long pulse slope efficiency of 14% was obtained, with thresholds of 60 mJ input, a maximum output pulse energy of 20 mJ, and with output wavelengths at 1545±12 nm. When Q‐switched, the laser generated 0.3 mJ, 50 ns FWHM pulses at an output wavelength of 1533±1 nm. Visible upconversion emission in the laser rod was observed.

tunable multiterahertz beat signal generation from a two wavelength laser Diode Array
Optics Letters, 1995Co-Authors: C H Wang, Ci-ling PanAbstract:We report, for the first time to our knowledge, generation of a tunable miltiterahertz modulation signal on an optical carrier directly from a single laser source. The modulation frequency, which can be tuned from 0.15 THz to more than 7 THz, is the beat note obtained by varying the spectral separation between the coaxial two-color output of a two-wavelength laser-Diode Array from 0.32 to 17 nm. The frequency characteristics of the terahertz beat note are determined with a noncollinear intensity autocorrelator.

Tunable picosecond pulse generation from an actively mode-locked laser Diode Array with intracavity chirp compensation
1994Co-Authors: Ci-ling Pan, Chi-luen WangAbstract:In this paper, we will present for the first time a tunable picosecond laser system based on a commercial laser Diode Array using the actively mode-locking technique. The novel feature is the incorporation of a folded dispersive delay line which served the functions of wavelength tuning and intracavity dispersion compensation, with good sidemode suppression and spatial mode control.

Dual-wavelength actively mode-locked laser-Diode Array with an external grating-loaded cavity.
Optics letters, 1994Co-Authors: Chi-luen Wang, Ci-ling PanAbstract:We report the generation of dual-wavelength picosecond pulses by use of a commercial laser-Diode Array. The laser cavity incorporated a folded dispersive delay line with a V-shaped double-stripe mirror. The spectral separation of the laser output at the two wavelengths can be tuned from 2 to 11 nm. The actively mode-locked pulse widths at the two wavelengths were both 29 ps. Cross-correlation and power-spectrum measurements indicated that the two-color pulses were synchronized with an absolute timing jitter of less than 1 ps (instrument limited).

Silicon monolithic microchannel-cooled laser Diode Array
Applied Physics Letters, 2000Co-Authors: J. A. Skidmore, B. L. Freitas, J. Satariano, E. Utterback, L. Dimercurio, K. Cutter, J. Crawford, S. SuttonAbstract:A monolithic microchannel-cooled laser Diode Array is demonstrated that allows multiple Diode-bar mounting with negligible thermal cross talk. The heat sink comprises two main components: a wet-etched Si layer that is anodically bonded to a machined glass block. The continuous wave (cw) thermal resistance of the 10 bar Diode Array is which matches the performance of discrete microchannel-cooled Arrays. Up to 1.5 is achieved cw at an emission wavelength of Collimation of a Diode Array using a monolithic lens frame produced a 7.5 mrad divergence angle by a single active alignment. This Diode Array offers high average power/brightness in a simple, rugged, scalable architecture that is suitable for large two-dimensional areas.

Laser Diode Array pumped continuous wave Rubidium vapor laser
Optics express, 2008Co-Authors: Boris V. Zhdanov, Adam Stooke, G. Boyadjian, A. Voci, Randy KnizeAbstract:We have demonstrated continuous wave operation of a laser Diode Array pumped Rb laser with an output power of 8 Watts. A slope efficiency of 60% and a total optical efficiency of 45% were obtained with a pump power of 18 Watts. This laser can be scaled to higher powers by using multiple laser Diode Arrays or stacks of Arrays.
