Flow Distribution Property, pressure drop and heat exchange performance of proposed heat exchanger-reactor are tested and discussed. Firstly, flow Distribution uniformity is characterized by CFD simulation and then qualitatively confirmed by visualization experiment. Results show that for total flowrates ranging from 5 mL s−1 to 20 mL s−1, good Distribution uniformity is obtained, with maximum flowrate deviation less than 10%. Then, experiments of heat exchange between hot and cold water are carried out. High values of overall heat transfer coefficient ranging from 2000 to 5000 W m−2 °C−1 are obtained under our working conditions. The volumetric heat exchange capability (UA/V) is found to be around 200 kW m−3 °C−1, showing a high heat exchange capability with compact design. The roles of end-effect and non-established flow are discussed and are supposed to be responsible for efficient heat transfer. Finally a typical fast exothermic reaction, neutralization between acid and basic solutions, is carried out to test the thermal control capability of the studied heat exchanger-reactor. Results indicate that isothermal condition could be realized by circulating appropriate flowrate of coolant through the heat exchanger.

Flow Distribution Property of the constructal distributor and heat transfer intensification in a mini heat exchanger

The flow Distribution characteristics of the constructal component functioning as a fluid distributor or as a fluid collector have been investigated and compared using computational fluid dynamics simulations. An experimental setup is designed and constructed for thermal and hydraulic performances tests. The effects of various assembly configurations on heat transfer characteristics and pressure drops are discussed. The results indicate that the integration of one constructal collector at the outlet of the heat exchanger can achieve almost uniform flow Distribution and consequently better intensify the heat transfer. It is also the most advantageous configuration based on a balanced consideration of heat transfer intensification and pump power consumption under the investigation conditions.

The difference between one way discord and quantum discord is analogue to the one between entanglement of assistance and entanglement of formation. For tripartite pure states, two kinds of polygamy deficits are presented with the equivalent expressions and physical interpretations regardless of measurement. For four-partite pure states, we provide a condition which makes one way discord polygamy satisfied. In addition, we generalize these results to the case for N -partite pure states. Those results can be applicable to multipartite quantum systems and are complementary to our understanding of the shareability of quantum correlations.

A “busy” network (the precise meaning of the term “busy” will be presented in the text) is modelled as a switched single-server hybrid dynamical system whose switching laws are stochastic and are based on typical multiple access network control protocols such as ALOHA and ethernet. The techniques are used to compute the critical ratio of traffic production per network node to total available bandwidth that ensures that data packets will not accumulate unboundedly in waiting queues at each node. This is a measure of stability of the network and is an emergent, global, Property determined by decentralized, autonomous behavior of each node. The behavior of each individual node is regarded as “microscopic” and the collective behavior of the network as a whole are emergent consequences of such microscopic laws. The results follow from the stationary Distribution Property of ergodic Markov chains.

The novelty is based on looking at the throughput allowed by the dynamics of the protocol itself in a way that is decoupled from the issue of packet generation by making a "busy network" approximation. The method allows the critical output bandwidth needed to ensure that a model for a LAN does not accumulate packets unboundedly in its queues to be computed. This is an emergent Property of the network that follows from decentralized microscopic laws. The result follows from the stationary Distribution Property of ergodic Markov chains.
