The Embedded Developer: using project ecologies to analyse local property development networks

Their market position affords planners the potential proactively to mould the capabilities of local development milieus. Theoretical frameworks have been developed to deal with the complexity of local development sectors. However, they lack sufficient detail to support in-depth research and analysis on a consistent basis or to allow close comparison of cases. A theoretical framework - project ecologies - is proposed to address this problem. It is consistent with extant institutional perspectives and can accommodate the heterogeneity of Developers and development. It is applied to a detailed case study of an urban regeneration project. The paper considers the efficacy of the theoretical framework and the scope that it reveals for planners to influence Developers' activities in their locales.

Embedded System Design: An Overview of Brazilian Development

RodriguesAbstract:Brazil, like other emerging countries such as China and India are increasing significantly their importance as global players. The Brazilian economic relevance gains more importance with its economic growth and industry expansion. This economic growth also reflects on Embedded systems design that expands following the market demand for new products. The Brazilian developments are ubiquitous in different areas: industrial automation, automobiles, home appliances, electronic consumers etc. A statistical survey was conducted to evaluate the Embedded system development in Brazil, to identify the Developer's profile and the main characteristics of Embedded projects. The main results indicate that Brazilian Embedded Developer is generally young, no older than 35 years old and has a maximum of 10 years of Embedded system design experience. They also show that Embedded project developed in Brazil, are commonly linked to new products, last more than 6 months and usually are delayed considering the initial schedule.

Smart polymeric coatings for damage visualization in substrate materials

Sjöberg, Galina AlvarezAbstract:For damage indication needs in polymer composites, three smart acrylic coatings based on microencapsulated crystal violet lactone leuco dye with Embedded Developer silica gel and methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate were elaborated. Damage visualization ability upon duralumin substrates was tested. Indentation tests were conducted in the interval of 0.0005–0.55 J of mechanical work. Digital image analysis was used for evaluation of the visual response in the form of “bruise” spots. The measure of response intensity was relative excess of blue color above achromatic gray in the scanned images of the “bruise” spots. This technique allowed detecting influence of the coating formulations onto the substrate damage visualization.
