It is observed that the high moisture content in the feed sliver decreases the End Breakage Rate of grey cotton, but for dyed cotton the running performance deterioRates with the increase in moisture content. With the increase in the linear density of feed sliver, the End-Breakage Rate increases for both grey and dyed cotton. The yarn quality in terms of CSP, irregularity and imperfections, in general, deterioRates with the increase in moisture content and linear density of feed sliver for both grey and dyed cotton. The cotton dyed with natural indigo shows poor running performance and yarn quality in comparison to grey and reactive black dyed cotton. For all the samples, a heavier sliver with high level of moisture content produces poor quality of yarn

The residual trash content in finisher draw frame sliver has significant impact on rotor deposition, End Breakage Rate and yarn quality. The draw frame sliver with minimum level of residual trash content is desirable for rotor spinning. Speed and type of opening roller also have significant effect on the above attributes

The residual trash content of natural indigo dyed sliver is very low, but the End Breakage Rate of indigo and green dyed is extremely high which is due to coating of rotor surface with colours because of the poor crock fastness of these two fibres. The quality of yarn also deterioRates due to the coating of rotor surface with colours. BlEnding of grey cotton sliver with natural indigo sliver at finisher draw frame stage shows improvement in spinnability and yarn quality

Sen-i Gakkaishi, 2011Co-Authors: Kazuhiro Murayama, Taiko Onodera, Nobuaki Yaginuma, Ryuzo OinumaAbstract:A mathematical model for prediction of the End Breakage Rate due to knots in the plain knitting zone is formulated by using the mathematical model of the plain knitting process and the mechanism of the End Breakage due to knots in the plain knitting zone. The only unknown value in the computer program based on this model is the yarn tension (Tp) in the trailing arm of the loop held the needle that got out of the step length of cam.Tp is obtained by the simulated calculation used this program so that the calculated End Breakage Rate agrees with the experimental End Breakage Rate. The effects of the depth of stitch draw, the cam angle, the step length of cam, and the take-down weight on the jamming Rates of knots and the End Breakage Rates of knots in the plain knitting zone are analyzed theoretical by using this program. The results obtained are as follows. 1) the jamming Rates of knots increase with the increase of the depth of stitch draw, the step length of cam, but decreases with the increase of the cam angle. The take down weight is indepEndent of the jamming Rates of knots. 2) the End Breakage Rates due to knots increase with the increase of the depth of stitch draw, the step length of cam and the take down weight, but decrease with the increase of the cam angle.

Comparison of End Breakage Rate due to Splices and Knots in Plain-Weft Knitting Zone
Journal of the Textile Machinery Society of Japan, 1991Co-Authors: Ryuzo Oinuma, Eiichi Sasaki, Hiroshi SuzukiAbstract:The effect of some factors on the End Breakage Rate in the plain-weft knitting zone due to three kinds of yarn joints (an air-splice, a weaver's knot and a fisherman's knot) is investigated experimentally, using a combed cotton yarn c 30s/1. End Breakage in the plain-weft knitting zone due to an air-splice hardly occurs under any knitting condition. Therefore, the air-splice is a very useful yarn joint in weft knitting. The knitting defect due to a weaver's knot or a fisherman's knot is almost always caused by End Breakage in the plain-weft knitting zone. This End Breakage occurs near the knot on the take-down side. The End Breakage Rate in the plain-weft knitting zone due to a weaver's knot or a fisherman's knot increases with the increase in the depth of stitch draw, the machine gauge, the input tension, and the take-down weight. Under every knitting condition, the End Breakage Rate due to a fisherman's knot is more than that due to a weaver's knot.

The commonly used oil consists of C 12 –C 31 fractions of mineral oil that sometimes impart different intensities of oily (kerosene) or fishy smell to the End product. In the present work, efforts have been made to find a suitable sustainable substitute of mineral oil based conditioning agent for spinning of jute yarn and for this, three types of vegetable oil (rice bran oil, palmolein oil and castor oil), a silicone emulsion, a mixed enzyme system and glycerine have been used sepaRately or in combinations as conditioning agents for jute fibre before its mechanical processing for making yarn in jute spinning machines. Considering comparable mechanical process performance for spinning of jute fibre ( viz. , fibre loss as droppings during processing, moisture retention prior to spinning stage and spinning End Breakage Rate), tensile properties of yarn, and lower yarn hairiness, it may be suggested to use 2.5% castor oil alone, or 2% castor oil in combination with 0.1–0.5% glycerine in the form of oil-in-water emulsion as the most suitable alternatives to conventional mineral oil-based jute conditioning agent to spin ordinary jute yarn.
